Shop Lead - EDM
Job Summary:
The Shop Lead oversees operations in our tool and die shop. The Lead will have a strong background in machining and tool-making, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to quality and safety. This role requires accountability and a strong sense of ownership over the department's performance, with a focus on fostering a culture of growth, resilience, and a "thirstiness to win" both individually and as a team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Supervision:
o Lead and mentor a team of machinists and apprentices, promoting a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
o Encourage team members to embrace a "thirstiness to win," motivating them to achieve high performance and take pride in their contributions.
o Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure team members take ownership of their work while celebrating their successes.
2. Production Management:
o Plan and schedule daily production activities, ensuring optimal staffing and managing hours relieved to meet production needs.
o Monitor workflow, quality of work, and adherence to schedules, adjusting as necessary to optimize productivity and overcome obstacles.
o Ensure all work is performed to specifications and quality standards, fostering a proactive approach to challenges and emphasizing a winning mindset.
3. Technical Oversight:
o Review and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
o Troubleshoot machining issues and provide solutions to improve processes, encouraging team members to innovate and overcome challenges.
o Ensure all tools and equipment are maintained, calibrated, and compliant with industry standards.
4. Quality Control:
o Implement and uphold quality control measures to meet industry standards, holding team members accountable for the quality of work.
o Conduct regular inspections and reviews of work, addressing any quality concerns and providing constructive feedback.
o Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives that inspire the team to take pride in their craftsmanship and collective achievements.
5. Safety Compliance:
o Promote a culture of safety within the shop, holding team members accountable for adhering to safety protocols.
o Ensure all team members follow safety procedures and conduct regular safety training and meetings.
o Take ownership of maintaining a safe work environment for all employees.
6. Team Member Accountability:
o Monitor attendance and punctuality, addressing issues directly and fairly.
o Review hours worked and hours relieved to ensure compliance with company policies.
o Maintain clear documentation of performance issues, including quality of work, attendance, and tardiness, and work with Leaders to implement improvement plans when necessary.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant vocational training or certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a tool and die shop or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and fabrication.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, with a focus on accountability and a winning mindset.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Familiarity with CAD software and machining tools.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Standing for extended periods and working in a manufacturing environment.
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
