About the Company
Heading Home, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Finance to oversee and lead the organization’s financial strategy and operations. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and partnering closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Development Officer (CDO), the Vice President of Finance will be integral to shaping Heading Home’s financial policy and strategic direction. This role will be responsible for all aspects of financial administration, business planning, and budgeting, and will work collaboratively with the executive leadership team and the finance committee of the board of directors.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Partner with the CEO, COO, CAIO, and CDO on operational and strategic issues; provide financial analysis, projections, and strategic recommendations to inform decision-making.
- Play a key role in the ongoing strategic planning process, ensuring alignment with Heading Home’s mission and goals.
- Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management to support the organization’s strategic plan.
- Engage with the board finance committee to address financial issues, trends, and changes in the operational model.
- Financial and Operational Management
- Direct budgeting processes and the implementation of budgets; monitor financial progress and present metrics internally and externally.
- Ensure financial record-keeping systems adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and monitor fund usage.
- Oversee the preparation of financial reporting materials for funding organizations and the board of directors; prepare and communicate monthly and annual financial statements.
- Manage cash flow and forecasting; oversee all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting activities.
- Coordinate all audit activities and ensure compliance with grant requirements and loan covenants.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Lead and manage finance staff, including the Accounting Manager and Accounts Payable Associate, as well as guide larger multidisciplinary teams.
- Collaborate with senior management team members, including Directors of Program Operations, Real Estate & Maintenance, HR, and Data & Research, to ensure cross-departmental alignment.
- Provide guidance on attracting and developing key team members, fostering a high-performance, service-oriented finance department.
- Operational Excellence
- Oversee and enhance accounting operations, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in financial processes.
- Act as the primary liaison with contract managers, banking representatives, investment advisors, and other key stakeholders.
- Develop and refine fiscal systems to support organizational growth and effectiveness.
- Lead the annual budget process, ensuring a collaborative approach and comprehensive financial planning.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA/CMA required, MBA preferred.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 10 years leading a finance department.
- Nonprofit experience
- Demonstrated excellence in financial management, budgeting, control, and reporting.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate strategic vision into operational models.
- Proficiency in accounting software (NetSuite preferred) and advanced technology skills, especially with Excel.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with a collaborative and flexible style.
- Strong commitment to developing team members and a passion for the organization’s mission.
- High integrity and a hands-on management approach in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
- Experience with state and federal contracts a plus.
Pay range and compensation package
Annual Salary: $160,000 - $165,000
