Primary Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the vehicle in a safe manner and notifies leadership promptly of any unexpected conditions or accidents.
- Helps passengers enter and depart the bus.
- Conforms to all applicable traffic safety laws.
- Assists the department leader with daily transportation department operations.
- Daily vehicle inspection and maintenance for cleanliness and safety concerns.
- Maintains accurate logs in accordance with requirements.
- Adheres to set timetables, modifies schedules to accommodate unplanned changes, and identifies the safest and most effective collection and delivery routes.
- Drives a specially equipped bus to transport pediatric patients with physical disabilities to different locations; ensures that wheelchair lifts and tie-down devices are operating correctly and that riders are brought to their appointments on schedule.
- Maintains a level of vigilance and safety at all times.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Education, Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Valid State Driver’s License required.
- Clean driving record
- Must be able to pass background screen and drug screen
- Previous driving experience
- Reliable and punctual
- CPR
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Frequent use of hearing and speaking for the exchange of information through oral communication.
- Frequent use of hearing to differentiate bodily noises and/or hear warnings, faulty equipment, etc.
- Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of 0 to 25 lb.
- Frequent reaching and grasping.
- Frequent use of vision for close (20 inches or less) and long (20 feet or more) distances, as well as the ability to detect and differentiate colors.
- Frequent bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, and squatting, as well as repeated foot/leg and hand/arm motions.
- Use of eyesight sometimes to determine distances and spatial connections.
- Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling of 25-50 lb.
- Occasional patient lifting and moving.
- Occasional reliance on scent to detect and identify smells.
- Frequent driving.
