Overview :

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for establishing and directing the strategic long-term goals, policies, and procedures for the organization's Information Systems / Technology (IT) Department. This role is essential for aligning IT infrastructure, systems, and operations with the broader business objectives.

The CIO will lead high-priority IT projects, ensure that the organization’s technology is cutting-edge, and ensure systems are scalable, secure, and efficient. Additionally, this role will oversee hardware acquisitions and the integration of new technologies to meet the evolving needs of the business. The CIO will also provide technical guidance while staying ahead of industry trends, ensuring that the organization remains competitive and compliant with healthcare regulations.

Major Responsibilities :

Strategic Leadership and Planning :

  • Establish and direct the strategic long-term goals and policies for the IT department, ensuring alignment with the organization’s business objectives.
  • Define the organization's IT vision and strategic direction, supporting both clinical and operational needs.

Systems and Infrastructure Management :

  • Assess the organization’s long-term systems requirements and provide guidance on hardware acquisitions necessary to support business objectives.
  • Ensure reliable IT systems and infrastructure across multiple healthcare business lines.
  • High-Impact Projects and Technical Guidance :
  • Lead and provide technical guidance on high-priority IT projects, ensuring successful implementation and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Identify emerging technologies and trends, assessing their potential impact on the organization, and recommending innovative solutions that improve healthcare delivery, patient / resident care, and business operations.
  • Team Leadership and Development :

  • Provide leadership and guidance to IT department staff, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Manage a team of IT professionals, ensuring they are equipped with the skills, tools, and knowledge required to support the organization’s needs.
  • Technology Acquisition and Integration :

  • Oversee the selection and acquisition of hardware, software, and technology solutions, ensuring they meet the organization’s current and future needs.
  • Lead the integration of IT systems ensuring interoperability across various business lines to enhance operational efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
  • Cybersecurity and Compliance :

  • Establish and enforce security policies and procedures to safeguard sensitive organizational and patient data.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare industry regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH) and manage risk associated with the storage, transfer, and protection of electronic health information.
  • Regularly assess the organization's cybersecurity posture, leading efforts to address vulnerabilities and stay ahead of potential threats.
  • Collaboration with Executive Team :

  • Collaborate closely with the CFO and executive leadership team to drive initiatives that align with the organization’s long-term goals.
  • Vendor and Budget Management :
  • Oversee relationships with IT vendors and third-party service providers, ensuring the organization receives quality service and technology solutions.
  • Manage the IT department’s budget, ensuring financial resources are allocated efficiently to support the organization's technology and business needs.
  • Qualifications :

  • Education : Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience : At least 7 years of IT leadership experience, with a focus on large healthcare systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in developing and executing IT strategies within healthcare organizations.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare operations, clinical workflows, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience in IT project management, budgeting, and technology integration within complex environments.
  • Characteristics : Strong leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • Expertise in healthcare IT systems, including EHR, HIS, and telemedicine platforms.
  • Advanced understanding of cybersecurity and data privacy regulations, including HIPAA and HITECH.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
