PARAMEDIC
Supervised by: EMS Coordinator
Job Summary:
The Paramedic will assist nursing staff in providing patient care in the Emergency Department and perform all interfacility transports from Johnson County Hospital to higher levels of care. The paramedic will report to the EMS Coordinator. The paramedic will perform medical care within the facility under the direction of a hospitalist and nursing staff. Out of facility or interfacility care will be provided within the Nebraska State Model Protocols. Johnson County Hospital is not a primary 911 response service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Work within the full scope of a Paramedic under the Johnson County Hospital and Nebraska State Model Protocols.
•Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals, including EMTs, nurses, physicians, and first responders.
•Administer medications and intravenous infusions as approved by the protocol or medical direction.
•Monitor and manage patient conditions during transit, adapting to changes in the patient's status.
•Collaborate with healthcare providers at sending and receiving facilities to exchange relevant patient information.
•Function in the pre-hospital environment, transporting patients from between facilities and from 911 scenes, following protocols established by the Medical Director.
•Document patient care and related information using appropriate platforms and procedures.
•Adhere to established medical protocols, legal guidelines, and health and safety standards.
•Attend refresher programs and continuing education events to maintain certifications annually.
•Maintain a clean and professional appearance, demonstrating ethical behavior.
•Maintain equipment and inventory of supplies, including BLS and ALS, and be accountable for medications on every EMS unit.
•Safely operate and maintain emergency vehicles in compliance with all laws.
•Assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance, station maintenance, public education, public relations, and emergency medical service training.
•Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Current State of Nebraska Paramedic License
• Valid Driver’s License
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Preferred Qualifications:
• NREMT Certification
• Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic or Community Paramedic
(CCP-C/FP-C/CP-C) certification
Ability to obtain within 12 months of hire:
• Advanced Medical Life Support certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification
• Advanced Trauma Life Support or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support certification
We are seeking 3 fulltime Paramedics to perform interfacility ambulance transports and assist nursing staff in the Emergency department. This position will be 48 hour shifts to include weekends, nights and holidays, split between 3 paramedics.
Candidate must have a Nebraska Paramedic license and valid driver’s license. Will also be required to have or attain BLS, ACLS and PALS Certification.
