General skills:
- The ability to communicate well with individuals of all backgrounds in a caring and supportive manner.
- Excellent telephone etiquette and keyboard skills.
- Must be able to work efficiently and accurately in a busy environment.
- Must have basic knowledge of the operation of a computer and multiline phone system.
- Must have knowledge of medical terminology.
- Answer telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner within a minimum number of rings.
- Obtain and enter accurate demographic information into eCW (address, telephone number, name of insurance or self-pay status)
- Schedule appointments for patients in accordance with the established procedures.
- Schedule appointment correctly- review appointment date, time, location and provider name with caller.
- Inform caller of items to bring to appointment (including insurance card, medications, office visit fee, and verification of income-if applicable)
- Informs patient of any existing balance noted in computer and request patient be prepare for any payment due at time of visit.
- Reminds caller to arrive 1-hr to apply for grant or 15-mins if has private insurance before scheduled appointment to complete paperwork.
- Answer questions and offer other information, as requested, to provide patient-focused service and a positive impression of the organization.
