The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description Seasonal Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) staff support the mission of CEH by performing a variety of administrative functions during New York State’s summer season and beyond. Positions assist CEH district office environmental health staff by performing a variety of critical administrative support functions such as answering office telephones, triaging calls, sorting and distributing mail, filing documents, maintaining office file systems, and performing data entry. A seasonal Office Assistant 1 (Keyboarding) role provides interested individuals with the ability to gain real world experience in the field of public health through on-the-job training. Flexible opportunities begin in early May and extend through September 2025.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this position. However, prior to appointment, candidates will be required to pass a Civil Service keyboarding test that demonstrates ability to enter text at a rate of at least 30 words per minute with at least 96% accuracy.Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will be interested in exploring a career in public/environmental health; ability to work independently and as part of a team; effective problem-solving skills; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other computer programs as needed.
