The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform. Duties Description The Research Scientist 1 major activities are necropsy, performing the direct fluorescent antibody test (dFAT), reporting results to the submitting county, and data management. The candidate will prepare and process samples for molecular (PCR) testing in a diagnostic and research capacity. The Research Scientist 1 will also use PCR and sequencing technologies for clinically relevant and emerging zoonotic agents. Candidate will calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment. Other duties as required.
The minimum qualifications required for this vacancy. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in the natural sciences and two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field, or a Master's degree in the appropriate field and one year of post-degree professional research experience in that field.Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have professional work experience in clinical laboratory testing, biology, microbiology, veterinary medicine, wildlife biology, public health or infectious diseases. Additional experience or licensure as a veterinary technician or laboratory animal caretaker is ideal. Experience in necropsy, fluorescent microscopy, data management, and expertise in molecular techniques including clinical and research assay development. Bachelor’s degree in biological or chemical sciences and a minimum of two years’ experience in the handling of infectious clinical samples and/or human pathogens at biosafety level 2 containment. Excellent written and communication skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office programs including Access, Excel and Word.
