GENERAL SUMMARY:

Principal Job Functions

- *Performs all types of diagnostic x-ray procedures to include radiography, fluoroscopy, portable diagnostic and portable fluoroscopy; practices radiation safety for patients, staff and self.
- *Uses sterile technique as required.
- *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.
- Performs venipunctures.
- *Competently operates all diagnostic x-ray equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS and offsite Radiologist Services
- *Utilizes department computer systems, PACS, to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
- *Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
- *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; demonstrates flexibility in scheduling and proper communication with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
- *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
- Participates in the departments quality improvement plan as assigned.
- *Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
- *Keeps area properly supplied.
- *Competently sets up and operates various c-arms to support high volume surgical cases in the operating room. Develops positive rapport with surgeons in the operating room.
- *Competently sets up and operates o-arms in the operating room to support high volume surgical cases, working closely with the surgeons.
- *Competently operates all x-ray equipment to perform trauma imaging via portable or stationary x-ray systems. Achieves high quality trauma images in an expedient manner.
- *Competently and efficiently completes all types of x-ray imaging for high volume trauma clinic patients.
- Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
- *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

- Maintains clinical competency as required for the unit including but not limited to age-specific competencies relative to patients growth and developmental needs, annual skill competency verification and mandatory education and competencies.
- Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal and state regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of radiologic positioning, and use of technical factors and radiation safety practices.
- Skill in operating radiologic equipment, image capturing devices, PACS and other related systems.
- Ability to react appropriately and perform work under stressful and emergent situations.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
