Job Summary
The position of Qualitative Research Intern is an internship within the Maternal, Child, and Family Health (MCFH) Division of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH). The primary responsibilities for the Qualitative Research Intern will be to assist the MCFH Lead Qualitative Researcher with various components of research and evaluation activities involving the division’s programs and monitoring systems. Some of the qualitative projects the intern will support are related to the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) Story Telling Project, Philadelphia Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) and Philly Families CAN.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Responsibilities/Duties
Position Type and Work Schedule: The internship will run from May-August 2025 (Summer Internship). Hours are flexible, but the intern will be required to work up to 20 hours per week (minimum of 10 hours), between the hours of Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Travel: Possible local travel to multiple sites including community meetings and other events upon request.
Physical Demands: Transporting materials is limited to travel, if needed.
Salary and Benefits: The Qualitative Research Intern will be paid $5,000 per semester.

Responsibilities/Duties
- Assist with recruitment of research participants- including conducting outreach and collecting informed consent
- Schedule data collection interviews and/or focus groups.
- Assist with conducting interviews and/or facilitating focus groups.
- Transcribe and clean interview and focus group recordings.
- Analyze qualitative data including developing and/or refining codebooks.
- Summarize findings into project reports, infographics, and presentations.
- Present research findings to various stakeholder including community members with lived experience.
- Conduct literature reviews in support of research activities.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the field of social sciences or public health.
- Demonstrative knowledge and experience involving qualitative research methods.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to organize and present information effectively.
- Demonstrative skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience using qualitative software, such as NVivo, preferred.
- Spanish proficiency is preferred.
