Job Summary
In food manufacturing, the role of a Production Assistant (PA) involves supporting the production team to ensure the efficient and smooth operation of food processing and packaging.
Responsibilities
Assisting with Production Line Operations
- Supporting operators in setting up and maintaining production equipment, such as
- mixers, conveyors, and packaging machines.
- Helping to monitor the production line to ensure smooth operation and that products are processed at the correct speed and quality.
- Assisting in ensuring production runs according to schedules and meeting deadlines.
Inventory and Material Management
- Assisting in managing raw materials, ingredients, and packaging supplies by tracking
- stock levels, reporting shortages, and ensuring that necessary materials are available.
- Helping with the unloading, storage, and organizing of materials in the correct areas to ensure quick access.
- Maintaining an accurate inventory record of materials, finished goods, and supplies.
Quality Control Assistance
- Assisting with quality control checks to ensure that food products meet established
- standards and regulations (e.g., proper weight, packaging, labeling).
- Conducting visual inspections or simple tests to identify defects, contamination, or other issues with products.
- Assisting in collecting samples
Cleaning and Sanitation
- Helping with routine cleaning and sanitation of production equipment, tools, and work areas to maintain hygiene standards and prevent contamination.
- Ensuring that production areas follow strict food safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to food safety regulations (e.g.HACCP).
- Cleaning machinery and tools between production batches to avoid cross-contamination of different food products.
Packaging and Labeling Support
- Assisting in the packaging process by ensuring products are correctly labeled, sealed,
- and prepared for shipment.
- Ensuring the correct packaging materials are being used for each product and helping to prepare finished goods for storage or distribution.
- Conducting checks to verify that labeling meets regulatory requirements (e.g., nutritional information, expiry dates).
Monitoring Production Schedules and Workflow
- Assisting in ensuring that production schedules are adhered to and helping to resolve any production delays.
- Helping to organize workflow on the production floor to maintain efficiency and meet
- daily production targets. Coordinating with supervisors to ensure smooth transitions between production batches or shifts.
Health and Safety Compliance
- Assisting in maintaining a safe working environment by following safety protocols and reporting any safety hazards.
- Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations in the production area, such as proper handling of machinery and raw materials.
- Assisting with the implementation of food safety standards and training of new workers on best practices.
Troubleshooting and Equipment Maintenance
- Assisting operators or technicians in identifying and solving minor production issues, such as equipment malfunctions or ingredient shortages.
- Performing basic maintenance on production equipment, such as cleaning or changing parts, under the guidance of supervisors.
- Reporting any larger issues to the appropriate team members, such as equipment breakdowns or material supply problems.
Documentation and Reporting
- Assisting in tracking production data, including quantities produced, time spent, and any issues encountered during production.
- Keeping records of completed batches, including product codes, expiration dates, and other required documentation for traceability.
- Reporting any discrepancies or issues with product quality, scheduling, or materials.
Supporting the Production Team
- Assisting supervisors, production managers, and other team members with tasks as needed.
- Helping to train new staff or support team members during peak production periods.
- Acting as an extra pair of hands during busy periods or when tasks need to be completed quickly.
Experience
- Must be fluent in Spanish & English.
- Proficient on MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Familiarity with using hand tools, power tools, and assembly processes.
- Willingness to learn and work as part of a team.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
