Job Role Summary

As a Fleet Mechanic with the Health and Hospital Corporation, you will play a vital role in maintaining and repairing various vehicles and equipment, including heavy dump trucks, RSVs, and Ford trucks and cars. Your expertise will ensure that all equipment is in safe working order, contributing to the overall efficiency of our public health operations.

A Day in the Life : In this dynamic role, you will engage in various tasks from performing routine maintenance and complex repairs to participating in public health emergency preparedness exercises. You'll work with gas and diesel engines, ensuring that all equipment-from light vehicles to heavy machinery-functions optimally.

Associated Job Duties

Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance (91%)

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all vehicles and equipment, including oil changes, brake jobs, tire repairs, engine overhauls, transmission replacements, and drive line component replacements.
  • Conduct diagnostics and repair on hand-held equipment and document all repairs and changes made to vehicles and equipment.

Damage Assessment (2%)

  • Notify the supervisor if damage to vehicles or equipment appears to be due to operator abuse or neglect.
  • Continuous Learning (5%)

  • Stay current with training on the latest advancements in vehicle and equipment technology.
  • Public Health Emergency Preparedness 2%

  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness exercises and response initiatives as directed.
  • Engage in a minimum of two HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) events totaling at least eight (8) hours annually.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the department's mission.
  • Qualifications

  • Specialized education / training normally acquired through up to 18 months
  • Open to new graduates
  • High School Diploma
  • Basic Tools required
  • Licenses / Certifications Required

  • Valid Indiana driver's license;
  • Able to obtain class "A" CDL license
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Skilled in use of mechanic's standard auto-truck repair / tools and testing equipment (e.g. tire tools, compression gauge, timing light, etc.)
  • Working knowledge of engines of fleet vehicles (cars, trucks) and equipment (vehicle-mounted / carried)
  • Knowledge of safety precautions and their application in garage or field setting
  • Ability to operate vehicles and equipment; diagnose mechanical problems; perform standard repairs to department machinery; use reference / repair manuals; be flexible to changing work priorities; keep accurate / complete records regarding service inventory
