JOB SUMMARY :
The Hospitalist APRN Nurse Practitioner will report to the Hospitalist, Medical Director. Hospitalist APRNs are engaged in managing the clinical problems of acutely ill, hospitalized patients.
Hospitalist APRNs will provide clinical care for patients admitted at Eskenazi Hospital, support surgical and specialty services through consultative general internal medicine practice. The APRN plans, directs, and evaluates patient's health care at EMG venues. The APRN provides diagnostic as well as therapeutic intervention and evaluation, including diagnostic and pharmacologic intervention. Perform or order elected laboratory testing, referral to physician as needed, write prescriptions, and perform office procedures within the scope of expertise protocols and available equipment. Works with physician in the care and treatment of patients.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
Clinical Responsibilities
- Performs in a manner to create and sustain a positive work culture with cross-department collaboration and in alignment with Eskenazi Health and Eskenazi Medical Group initiatives.
- Provide assessment, diagnostic determination, ongoing clinical management, necessary referral for consultation, care planning, therapeutic orders, transfer authorization, risk assessment, and determination as appropriate for discharge or transfer of patients, both directly and via supervision of trainees.
- Collaboration, communication and coordination with all physicians, advanced practice providers and healthcare personnel caring for hospitalized patients.
- Perform bedside rounds on all patients (either with team members or independently) and provide attending notes on all assigned patients.
- Participates in quality improvement review on a periodic basis, including systematic review of records and treatment plans, helps disseminate findings and implement plans for improvement.
- Provides patient education verbally and in writing regarding the diagnosis and treatment plan to affected patients and family members.
- Serves as an educational resource for other EMG staff.
- Identifies opportunities to clinically collaborate with department physicians or specialty consultants as needed.
- Strives for improved patient care focusing on positive outcomes and cost effectiveness through the five primary roles of expert clinician, consultant, educator, researcher and leader.
- Maintains a flexible schedule to meet the need of patients, staff and system.
- Complete patient discharge summaries within expected timeframes.
- Complete all medical record documentation and billing submissions within one business day of service.
- Provide direct contact and consultation with patient's family members, friends, advocates, and relevant others to ensure effective communication of patient status and care plans and to encourage and support a patient-centered and family-friendly style within the hospital environment.
