Actuarial Consultant - Edrington

Overview

Edrington Health Consulting, an internal division of HMA, is keeping an eye out for top actuarial talent. Our EHC team offers an amazing working environment in Phoenix, AZ. We have a strong preference for Medicaid Actuarial experience but have flexibility with years of experience and exam progress/credentialing.  

Job Summary

Consultants will work with clients under the direction of others and independently. Consultants will help our clients with a broad range of healthcare related analytics, strategy consulting, data analysis, financial and reimbursement strategies, rate negotiations, operational support, and project management. On group projects and individually Consultants are expected to use Microsoft Office products and SAS to validate, summarize, and analyze health insurance data to assist with tasks such as capitation rate review, reserving, risk adjustment, rate development, and trend projection. Successful Consultants will be motivated, highly curious, organized, and effective communicators.

Working closely with an experienced team, and with access to HMA’s national network of health policy experts, Consultants will operate in both team-member and team-leader situations in a variety of projects to organize and analyze data for patterns, trends, and strategic insights in support of the firm’s consulting engagements. Consultants will assist with all phases of quantitative research including programming, data management and the interpretation and presentation of results.

Responsibilities

Work Performed and Job Requirements

• Perform data extraction, uploading data, manipulation, cleaning, quality checking, and analysis.
• Interpret findings, including internal discussions with teams about your conclusions.
• Presents findings to internal colleagues, and clients.
• Create reports and accompanying numeric exhibits to convey questions and results, both internally and to clients.
• Lead teams of analysts and report results to Senior Consultants, Actuaries, and Directors.
• Build Excel models.
• Process large datasets to identify program trends.
• Implement risk adjustment programs.
• Assist in the development of audience-appropriate reports and presentations to summarize findings from research and analysis tasks.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training

BA, BS, or MS degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or a related field. Actuarial exams are beneficial but not required. Experience with Microsoft Office and computer programming knowledge (SAS, SQL, WPS, SPSS, etc.) is beneficial but not required.

Experience

Prior experience in work involving: publicly funded healthcare including, but not limited to policy, administration, operations, compliance, research, consulting, or evaluation, data analysis, and programming. There is a strong preference for at least three years of prior experience across these areas.
