You will lead the charge in adopting AI technologies that streamline operations and foster innovation and enhance our back-office functions, while also providing mentorship and promoting growth within the team. Your role is pivotal in maintaining our position as a leader in healthcare consulting, continuously advancing our services through AI and supporting our clients in every phase, from planning to quality improvement.
Job Summary
The Director, Artificial Intelligence is responsible for leading, driving, and implementing HMA’s AI strategy. This includes Identifying opportunities to use AI, as well as evaluating the benefits and costs. This position monitors and evaluates technology developments and best practices to determine what technologies are appropriate for the organization. The Director, Artificial Intelligence is expected to work with internal technical teams and external vendors to implement prototype and proof-of-concept solutions that provide value.
Responsibilities
Work Performed and Job Requirements
- Develop and refine the HMA's AI strategy, aligning it with business objectives and market trends.
- Identify opportunities for AI implementation across various departments and functions, prioritizing initiatives based on potential impact and feasibility.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the design, development, and deployment of AI solutions, ensuring alignment with project timelines and deliverables.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members.
- Collaborate with senior leadership, department heads, and external partners to gain buy-in and support for AI initiatives.
- Communicate progress, challenges, and outcomes effectively to stakeholders, adjusting strategies as needed to ensure success.
- Stay abreast of emerging AI technologies, tools, and best practices to offer innovative solutions.
- Drive the evaluation, selection, and integration of AI platforms, frameworks, and third-party solutions, ensuring scalability and interoperability.
- Oversee the development of data infrastructure and governance frameworks to support quality, secure, and compliant AI initiatives.
- Collaborate with data engineering and analytics teams to access, integrate, and preprocess data for AI model training and deployment.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the effectiveness of AI solutions and identify areas for improvement.
- Implement feedback mechanisms and iteration cycles to continuously optimize AI models and algorithms for accuracy, reliability, and efficiency.
- Drive organizational change management efforts to foster AI adoption and cultivate a data-driven culture.
- Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on AI concepts, capabilities, and applications relevant to their roles.

Qualifications
Education/Training
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, cognitive science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience in leading, monitoring, and implementing IT initiatives or projects; Minimum of 1 year of experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting AI solutions in a business context. Experience with programming languages, machine learning frameworks, natural language processing libraries, data science tools, version control systems, and/or containerization tools is preferred.

- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements related to data privacy

Working Conditions
Work is sedentary in nature and performed in an office environment. Frequent travel to client sites and HMA offices. Involves frequent contact with staff and clients. Work may be stressful at times.

Work requires hand dexterity for office machine operation; stooping, climbing, and bending to files and supplies; mobility to complete errands; stand/sit for up to eight hours each day; ability to communicate clearly when using the telephone; requires sitting; standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and twisting at times; moderate levels of stress.
