We’re hiring a Peer Specialist (prn-as needed) to join our Youth Empowerment Program (YEP) and become an active member at Health Solutions. This position is located at our Family Center program in Pueblo, CO.
What You’d Be Doing
The Peer Specialist will work closely with the Clinical Care Specialist to assist with program and curriculum development, mentoring school-aged youth, and providing developmentally appropriate activities to foster healthy habits, coping skills, character development, stewardship, healthy boundaries, and empowering youth to live up to their highest potential. Under the supervision of the Director of Perry Hall, the Peer Specialist is responsible for:
- Providing peer support and mentorship to youth participants, drawing from personal experiences.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of program activities that promote mental health, wellness, and personal growth.
- Facilitating group sessions and one-on-one interactions to support youth in developing coping skills, self-esteem, and healthy relationships.
- Collaborating with the Clinical Care Specialist to adapt program materials and activities to meet the diverse needs of youth participants.
- Supporting youth in setting and achieving personal goals, and providing encouragement and guidance throughout their journey.
- Participating in team meetings and trainings to stay informed about best practices and program updates.
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of interactions and activities in accordance with state guidelines and agency policies.
- Providing crisis intervention and support as needed, and connecting youth to additional resources and services.
- Modeling positive behavior and healthy coping strategies in all interactions with youth, families, and staff.
- Ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all program participants.
- Adhering to all Health Solutions policies and procedures, as well as Colorado Childcare and Health Department Rules and Regulations.
- Extensive cross training between multiple departments will be required.
- Performing other job-related duties assigned by the Site Supervisor or their designee.

What We’re Looking For—The Must-Haves
- Must be at least nineteen years of age.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Personal knowledge of and experience with mental illness or substance use.
- A valid Colorado driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation during work hours.
- Demonstrated ability to work with children and adults from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, who are experiencing crisis situations.
- Knowledgeable regarding behavioral health, physical health, and child serving systems.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
- Ability to sit on the floor, walk, bend, stand, sit.
