Position Overview:
We are seeking dedicated individuals to serve as 988 Lifeline Center Engagement Specialists through AmeriCorps national service. In this role, you will work with CONTACT The Crisis Line and CONTACT Helpline to enhance community engagement and crisis intervention efforts. This position is essential for strengthening Mississippi’s mental health crisis response system and fostering sustainable partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a liaison between 988 Lifeline Centers and key stakeholders (CMHCs, 911, first responders, etc.).
- Ensure timely reporting and acknowledgment of 988 crisis engagements.
- Facilitate connections to mental health, substance abuse, medical care, and other treatment services.
- Conduct follow-ups for individuals who have reached out to 988.
- Collect and submit monthly data and reports.
- Promote the 988 Lifeline through community events, outreach, and education initiatives.
- Utilize SAMHSA’s 988 partner toolkit for content creation and messaging.
- Develop partnerships with local organizations such as schools, veteran groups, NAMI, and tribal communities.
- Host staff training on the 988 Lifeline and participate in statewide initiatives.
- Assist in marketing, outreach, grant writing, and advocacy efforts to reduce stigma around mental health.
- Participate in a large-scale AmeriCorps service project and monthly national calls with Health360.
Preferred Experience & Qualifications:
- Must have reliable transportation for travel
- Personal and/or professional knowledge of mental health topics.
- Strong teaching, training, and facilitation skills, particularly with adult learners.
- Understanding of mental health resources and crisis intervention services.
- Ability to engage diverse groups and create a positive, effective learning environment.
- Enthusiasm for reducing stigma around mental illness and substance use disorders.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Position Details & Benefits:
- Start Date: May 2025
- Commitment: 10-month AmeriCorps service term (Up to 12 months with approval).
- Full-time: 40 hours per week (1,700 service hours total).
- Hybrid: 40% travel, 60% remote
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM, with occasional evenings/weekends as needed
- Stipend: $23,000 (paid biweekly in 22 equal installments).
- Education Award: $7,395 upon successful completion of service.
- Paid Time Off: 5 holidays 2.5 personal days.
- Eligibility Requirements: Must have a high school diploma/GED and pass a national criminal background check.
