What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Peer Recovery Specialist position at Healthcare For the Homeless Inc?
Health Care for the Homeless is seeking a compassionate and skilled Senior Peer Recovery Specialist to join our Behavioral Health team. In this lead role, you’ll support clients by sharing your own recovery journey, co-facilitate substance use groups, collaborate with clinical teams, and serve as a mentor and advocate for peer recovery staff across departments.
What You’ll Do:
Build trust-based relationships with clients through walk-in services and scheduled visits.
Triage walk-in clients and provide warm hand-offs and referrals to mental health and addiction services.
Support clients in setting and reaching behavioral health, housing, and benefit-related goals.
Co-facilitate groups and increase access to peer support across the agency.
Mentor other Peer Recovery Specialists and support them through certification.
Partner with internal teams and external agencies to enhance client care and referral success.
Document client interactions clearly and promptly in the electronic health record.
What You Bring:
High school diploma or GED required; AA in Human Services preferred.
Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (required).
At least 2 years of experience connecting individuals to mental health and addiction services.
Lived experience with substance use and/or mental health recovery (required).
Strong knowledge of Baltimore’s behavioral health and recovery resources.
Willingness to apply Harm Reduction and Housing First principles in your work.
Valid Maryland driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
