Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Administrator, the Director of Nursing assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the functioning of the Nursing Department. Directs all activities toward fulfillment of the mission, vision and values. Serves as the leader and role model of the department by ensuring quality and continuity of care for residents. Promotes a harmonious relationship among personnel, medical staff, residents, families, volunteers, and visitors. The Director of Nursing is part of the facilities Leadership Team.

Provides routine rounding and staff support with resident cares
Maintains current Knowledge of Minnesota Department of Health Regulations
Maintains and applies knowledge of current policies and procedures
Responsible for the development, maintenance and evaluation of Service objectives and nursing practice to ensure effective and efficient operations of the nursing department.
Direct and supervise the scheduling of Nursing personnel staffing levels within established guidelines to provide quality care to all residents, keeping safety and comfort as a top priority.
Directs and supervises nursing, auxiliary, and ancillary staff rendering resident care services.
Prepares and participates in annual Department of Health Surveys, ensuring the facility complies with all Federal, States, and Local regulations.
Working with various schools of Nursing as well as other programs to interface the patient care programs with professional nursing education, practice, and research.
Plans, develops, and implements the budget for the Nursing Department. Monitors and approves expenses for personnel, supplies, and equipment.
Responsible for overseeing the departmental orientation and in-service training programs and competencies.
Plans, organizes, and coordinates, through designated personnel, a comprehensive continuous quality improvement program.
Participates with the Nursing Staff and the Administrator on Labor Relations issues and in the progressive disciplinary process as appropriate.
Responsible for employee performance evaluations and initiating recommendations for salary increases promotions and terminations.
Provides direct patient care.
Develop a plan of corrections to address deficiencies or negative findings by all governmental or regulatory agencies and submit them in the required time frame with access to EPOC/QIES for downloading of all documents.
Ensures that the interdisciplinary resident assessments and care plans are performed in compliance with regulations and in coordination with other disciplines. Participates in creating and auditing resident care plans and ensuring they are followed
Collaborates with MDS Coordinator to ensure accurate assessment of resident’s status is reflected in the medical record.
Collaborate with the Social Services Director to achieve timely and appropriate admissions for the facility.
As part of the Administrative Staff, attends management meetings, serves on committees including but not limited to: QAPI and Infection Control, and Admissions.
Ensures effective communications between Nursing and all departments related to education as well as quality of care and quality of life as required Federal, State, and Local regulations.
Supervises and assures that residents medical records are complete, accurate, organized, maintained, and stored according to regulations, coding and retrieval of records are systematically done based on Federal, States, and Local guidelines.
Maintains professional competencies through attendance in continuing education programs, nursing seminars and workshops.
Collaborates and network with nursing professionals and educators to remain current in trends and practices as it relates to long term care and the aging process.
Demonstrates an attitude of cooperation and professionalism when dealing with residents and family members of the community as well as with peers.
Adheres to all aspects of customer service including working together, clear and consistent communication, showing empathy, promoting kindness, and being respectful to others.
Performs other administrative tasks as directed by the Administrator.
Excels at relationship building and has strong leadership skills.
Required Qualifications:
Registered Nurse License – In Good Standing.
High level of patience, empathy, and compassion.
Knowledge of computers.
Experience using EMR.
Least 3 years’ experience functioning in the capacity of Director of Nursing and/or Assistant Director of Nursing.
