Position Summary:
The Manager of Clinical Pharmacy is responsible for overseeing essential pharmacy programs, ensuring optimal clinical outcomes, and leading a team of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. This role plays a key part in managed care operations, working collaboratively with Medical Management teams, including Utilization Management (UM), Care Management (CM), Population Health, and Quality. Reporting to the Vice President of Clinical Pharmacy & Quality, the Manager of Clinical Pharmacy provides strategic leadership in developing and implementing pharmacy initiatives that drive cost savings, improve clinical outcomes, and enhance care coordination.
The position requires strong leadership, strategic vision, and expertise in managed care operations to ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, optimize medication management programs, and support quality improvement initiatives across all lines of business.
Essential Position Functions/Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and strategic oversight of a team of clinical pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, ensuring high performance, continuous development, and adherence to best practices.
- Oversee managed care pharmacy operations, ensuring compliance with New York State, NCQA, CMS, and other regulatory requirements.
- Drive initiatives related to HEDIS, CMS Patient Safety measures, and pharmacy quality programs.
- Implement and manage cost-saving strategies, including utilization management reviews, site of service redirections, and lower-cost therapy alternatives.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including UM, CM, Population Health, and Quality to integrate pharmacy strategies that enhance transitions of care and disease state management programs.
- Develop and oversee pharmacy outreach programs for providers, members, and internal teams to promote medication adherence and improve clinical outcomes.
- Lead the design and execution of innovative pharmacy initiatives that align with organizational goals and improve overall healthcare quality.
- Ensure effective team coaching and professional development opportunities to enhance staff performance and engagement.
- Utilize data analytics to assess program effectiveness, identify opportunities for improvement, and support decision-making.
- Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including physicians, healthcare providers, and regulatory agencies, to drive pharmacy program success.
- Maintain a strong clinical foundation in disease state and medication management, providing guidance and expertise as needed.
- Other administrative and leadership duties as assigned.
Qualification Requirements:
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
- In-depth understanding of managed care pharmacy operations, quality measures, and utilization management programs.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations that simplify complex concepts, making them easily understandable for non-clinical staff.
- Ability to develop and present strategic initiatives and data-driven recommendations to executive leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency in regulatory compliance, including NY State Medicaid, NCQA, and CMS guidelines.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to develop and execute pharmacy programs that drive efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex pharmacy and managed care challenges.
- Experience in developing and implementing pharmacy quality initiatives.
Training/Education:
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) from an accredited University, required.
- Active clinical pharmacy license to practice in New York State, required.
- Completion of a clinical or managed care residency program, preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years in a clinical or managed care pharmacy environment.
- Minimum of 1-2 years in a managerial or leadership role, preferred.
- Experience in pharmacy quality initiatives and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with utilization management and pharmacy benefit management programs.
- Experience with provider, member, and pharmacy outreach efforts to enhance medication adherence and cost-effectiveness.
Base Compensation: $155,000 - $170,000 annual
Bonus Incentive: Up to 10% of base salary
