Job Overview
Process incoming phone calls promptly and politely and comply with request appropriately. Proficient with department computer system. Ability to assist patients with questions showing professional and diplomatic communication skills. Perform quality checks on all documents before forwarding to the requestor. Receive and process request for medical records received by the department within designated time frames. The ability to identify the type of request and ensure the proper authorization is included to comply with state and federal laws. Receive and process all forms, requests from insurance companies, and disability; identify the type of request and ensure proper authorization is included. Process all mail entering the department and forward as required. Post charges and payments for request for copied records or for completing forms. Request charts from off-site areas. Coordinates with other departments and the copy service when needed regarding medical release. Notify the appropriate individuals when litigation claims are made against the Health System. Copy medical record to a CD when requested. Employees provide suggestions/goals on self-evaluation. Perform other tasks as assigned.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Three to six months related clerical experience desired. Previous medical record experience preferred with knowledge of HIPAA guidelines. Ability to multi-task and alert to detail. Computer knowledge is a must.
