Healthcare Staffing Professionals has an immediate need for a Radiation Therapy Technologist to work in our clients medical center located in Long Beach, CA.

Pay Rate : $48 / hr

Qualification :

  • Certified Radiation Therapy Technologists shall be a graduate of an approved program in Therapeutic Radiologic Technology, evidence by a certificate or an associate degree from an accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) and certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

RTT : Must be graduate of an approved program in Therapeutic Radiologic Technology, evidence by a certificate or an associate degree from an accredited institution by the JRCERT and certification by the ARRT in (T) radiation therapy. The qualifications of such personnel shall be subject to review by the VA Chief of Staff and approval by the Facility Director. Competency requirements shall be defined by the facility.

  • One (1) year of experience - Knowledge of overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment.
  • One (1) year of experience - Delivery of prescribed therapeutic radiation for the purposes of cancer and abnormal cell growth treatments.
  • One (1) year of experience – in 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), Intensity-Modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT)
  • One (1) year of experience - Education and expertise necessary to generate radiation dose distribution and dose calculations in collaboration with the medial physicist and radiation oncologist
  • Technical Proficiency : Contract support staff and provider(s) shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Contractor shall provide documents upon request of the CO / COR to verify current and ongoing competency, skills, certification and / or licensure related to the provision of care, treatment and / or services performed. Contractor's support staff and provider(s) shall have knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to serve radiation oncology patient population. Contractor's support staff and provider(s) shall demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, and pathophysiology of disease processes specific radiation oncology patient population. Contractor shall provide verifiable evidence of all educational and training experiences including any gaps in educational history for all contract physician(s) and other contract provider (s) shall be responsible for abiding by the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations (referenced herein) that govern medical staff behavior.

    Duties :

    Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist (TRT) or Radiation Therapy Technologists (RTT) : Contractor's Radiation Therapists :

  • Furnish the service of 520 Hours or 0.25 full-time equivalent (FTE) Radiation Therapy Technologist to perform the requirements of this contract which will include but not limited to the following services :
  • Technologist must adhere to Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations involved in handling and treating patients with ionizing radiation, and all radiation safety guidelines. Policies and procedures of the Radiation Oncology Service which are consistent with national recognized accreditation standards. This will include but not limited to all necessary data required to maintain the Radiation Oncology Quality Improvement Program. All ROS guidelines shall be made available by the Supervisory Therapist, Chief, Radiation Oncology Services, or designee will make available.
  • Contractor's employee shall receive and interpret prescriptions / instructions from the treating physician and carry out complex assignments while under general supervision of the Supervisory Radiation Therapist.
  • Technologist shall prepare imaging, simulation, treatment, and ancillary equipment for patient use. This involves recording a series of measurements, including checks of the radiation field, to ensure basic specifications are met daily.
  • The Contractor's employees shall maintain appropriate markings on patients' skin to facilitate exact positioning for desired results and cushions / shields patients as appropriate. Procedures will be explained to patients securing the confidence & cooperation of patients, explain procedures while following ALARA principles.
  • Contractor's employees will operate imaging and / or sealed radiation equipment.
  • Contractor shall limit radiation field using lead cut outs or multi leaf collimation (MLC). May assist Radiation Oncologists with bolus design according to physician's direction.
  • Contractor shall position patients in the CT scanner and acquire specific data sets prescribed by the physicist or physician. Acquires the necessary tumor volume to be used in treatment planning. Gives the C.T.'s to the Radiation Oncologist for tumor volumes to be outlined. Contractor sets technical factors for radiotherapy procedures. Contractor will set-up and operate accessory equipment.
  • As required, contractor may have to provide support, assistance, or coverage for absence of employees.
  • Contractor is responsible for ensuring that supplies, materials, catheters, or other requirements are present and operational.
  • Contractor must be capable of producing radiographs incorporating the information required for the prescription, treatment planning, field shaping, and initial set-up of the patient.
  • Ensure departmental and / or hospital policies are followed.
  • Perform timeout procedure and positively identify each patient before providing treatment.
  • Maintain records of patients treated, therapy performed, and technical factors used.
  • Operate simulator and take high quality radiographs to accurately localize tumor volume as required.
  • Accomplish portal filming, localizing topographical landmarks. Contractor will construct accurate contours of the patient's body & perform necessary measurements utilized by the physicist.
  • Enter daily treatment notes into patients' medical records using Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) within local guidelines (within 24 hours of treatment).
  • Perform related clerical duties. Report any out of the ordinary incidents or problems that are encountered to Radiation Oncology Nurse.
  • HOURS OF OPERATION / SCHEDULING :

    Business Hours : 0800- 1630 daily Monday to Friday, with an option of compressed schedule of 10-hour shifts / 4 days a week, 0700-1730.

  • Patients must be seen by a contract support staff and provider(s) on-site at Facility in a timely manner in accordance with VA Rules and Regulations on clinic wait times and consult completion. Contractor shall notify the COR at least monthly about any obstacles to meeting this performance measure
  • Contract support staff and provider(s) shall be available and present in clinic during normal facility clinic hours, which will be established, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care by the Chief of Staff. Currently, normal clinic hours are Monday through Friday, 0730 to 1600
  • A flexible schedule may be established based on patient workload and the ability to access the treatment machines. It will include but is not limited to machine testing after hours; work on Federal holidays; and work on weekends. A schedule of work being performed after normal business hours must be presented to the COR ahead of work being performed
  • Salary : $48
