Palliative Care Chaplain Position Summary
The Palliative Care Chaplain conducts spiritual assessments and provides therapeutic support through spiritual and religious interventions and provides professional Pastoral Care and Counseling according to the Standards for Certified Chaplain, College of Pastoral Supervisor and Psychotherapy. The Chaplain advises patients in the completion of Advanced Directives. This position works within an academic environment through the Graduate Medical Education Program (GME) The Chaplain has no less than four units of Clinical Pastoral Education and is strongly recommended that the Chaplain be certified and in good standing with a pastoral care cognate group recognized by Commission / JCAPS, or is actively seeking certification.
Palliative Care Chaplain Position Requirements
Education
- Completion of a Master of Divinity degree or equivalent from an accredited Theological School or four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) with a bachelor’s degree may be considered in lieu of.
- Completion of one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) upon hire or transfer.
- Completion of four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) within two years from date of hire or transfer.
- Requires certification within Palliative Care within one year of date of hire.
- Chaplain certification is preferred.
