TO ACCESSION SURGICAL SAMPLES, MAKE CASSETTES FROM SURGICAL SAMPLES, CUTS AND STAINS INTRAOPERATIVE CONSULTS, GROSSES AND DICTATES DESCRIPTIONS OF SIMPLE TISSUE SPECIMENS, ORGANIZES AND STORES SPECIMENS, AND DISPOSAL OF SPECIMENS.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
MANUAL DEXTERITY AND ADAPTABILITY ARE ESSENTIAL. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION, TIME MANAGEMENT AND BASIC KEYBOARDING SKILLS ARE NECESSARY.
RESPONSIBILITIES
IDENTIFIES, ORIENTS, DESCRIBES, DICTATES ,AND DISSECTS SIMPLE TISSUE SPECIMENS.
OPERATES MICROTOME IN A CRYOSTAT. CUTS AND STAINS FROZEN SECTIONS.
LOGS SPECIMENS INTO COMPUTER DATABASE AND LABELS CASSETTES FOR STAFF AND RESIDENTS.
RECONCILES SPECIMEN RECEIPT FROM SURGICAL AREAS ADN CYTOLOGY.
CLEANS WORK AREA, AND INSTRUMENTS AFTER USE.
MAINTAINS AND MONITORS EQUIPMENT.
DRAINS FORMALIN FROM SPECIMEN CONTAINERS AND DISPOSES OF BIOLOGICAL WASTE.
AUDITS SUPPLY INVENTORY.
PICKS UP SPECIMENS FROM PATIENT CARE AREAS.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and / or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 75 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching / stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing / pulling, frequent reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
