Healthier Moms and Babies is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to reduce infant mortality and improve outcomes in our community. Healthier Moms and Babies provides several comprehensive programs which are designed to educate, empower, and inspire participants to make positive changes to impact the outcome of the pregnancies, their lives, and the lives of their families.

Job purpose

Reporting to the Healthy Start Program Director, the Women’s Health and Wellness Supervisor will lead the implementation and management of Healthier Moms and Babies (HMB) health and wellness initiatives. These initiatives include Own Your Journey, Our Healing Kitchen, and the Community Doula Program.

The Supervisor will be responsible for developing and overseeing outreach efforts and programming designed to improve the physical, emotional, and social well-being of low-income women during preconception, pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

The goal is to reduce poor birth outcomes and infant mortality by supporting women’s overall health before, during, and after pregnancy.

This position will supervise contracted doulas with a goal of supporting 100 births annually while ensuring effective program delivery and community engagement.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develops and oversees outreach strategies to effectively engage women in health and wellness programs, ensuring equitable access to services.
  • Coordinates Own Your Journey cohorts with community partners, including scheduling classes at the YMCA and other partner locations.
  • Collaborates with the intake team, Nurse Home Visitors, and Family Advocates to assign appropriate client referrals to Own Your Journey cohorts and Community Doulas.
  • Facilitate group education sessions as required.
  • Assigns caseloads to contracted doulas, monitors their progress, and provides regular developmental feedback to ensure quality service delivery.
  • Supports contracted doulas' recruitment, hiring, screening, training, and supervision to meet program goals.
  • Identifies training needs for doulas and coordinates ongoing education, including facilitating classes and workshops to enhance skills in working with healthcare and community partners.
  • Maintains a small caseload by supporting at least one doula client annually to stay connected to program operations and client needs.
  • Tracks and documents doula training to ensure compliance with program and funder requirements.
  • Documents all client interactions in the online case management system, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensures compliance with contracts, grants, and agency policies by monitoring documentation, data collection, and service delivery to mitigate risks.
  • Communicates clearly, concisely, and in a tactful, professional manner.
  • Shares accurate information and represents Healthier Moms and Babies in a professional manner within the community.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community organizations, local health departments, and community-based clinics to improve client access to resources.
  • Compiles and submits monthly reports to funders and partners, providing data on program performance and outcomes.
  • Develop expertise in best practices, evidence-based interventions, and client-centered approaches to improve program delivery, innovation, and evaluation.
  • Upholds ethical business practices by promoting integrity, honesty, and alignment with HMB’s mission, values, and vision.
  • Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies, procedures, and expectations, including maintaining proper attendance and punctuality.
  • Adheres to ethical business practices by striving to perform in a manner that conforms to the highest standards of ethical behavior, integrity, and honesty; exhibits commitment and promotes HMB’s mission, values, and vision.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Healthy Start Program Director to support program success.

Education

  • BA/BS Degree in Health and Wellness, Health Promotion, Human Behavioral Science, Public Health, Social Work, or Human Services.

License/Certification

  • Must have a current valid Driver’s License.
  • A properly insured vehicle for use on the job at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

Experience

  • Doula training and at least one year of experience as a doula preferred.
  • Doula certification must be completed within 6 months of starting the position if the candidate does not have Doula certification. HMB will pay for the certification.
  • Minimum of three years experience in health and wellness education and/or health promotion or home visits, specifically working with low-income families.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of women’s health and wellness and its critical role in improving birth outcomes and reducing infant mortality.
  • In-depth knowledge of current best practices and emerging trends related to the doula profession, including labor and delivery support, maternal and child health, and breastfeeding.
  • Familiarity with health equity principles, the social determinants of health, and their impact on maternal and infant outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of the doula's scope of practice, including the ability to conduct prenatal and postnatal assessments, provide labor and delivery support, and complete thorough documentation.
  • Ability to ensure programmatic compliance by implementing policies, procedures, and best practices that align with agency and funder requirements.
  • Proficiency in using standard office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentations, and email applications.
  • Ability to learn and use specialized software or other electronic health record systems to track and manage program data.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply work-related documents and program guidelines.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with the ability to apply innovative approaches to resolving assignments and critical program issues.
  • Knowledge of Fort Wayne’s community agencies, social service networks, and resources, with the ability to build partnerships and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Cultural competency in working with low-income clients and individuals from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating sensitivity and respect for cultural norms and practices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, concisely, and professionally.
  • Demonstrates initiative, self-motivation, and the ability to take proactive steps to achieve program goals.
  • Superior conflict resolution and mediation skills, with the ability to manage challenging situations and maintain positive client and staff relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage multiple clients, tasks, and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and effective decision-making.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 per year
