Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of this position is to provide non-emergency medical related transportation to people that are too sick, injured, or convalescent to provide driving transportation for themselves.
Essential Functions
- Safely drive a passenger vehicle, wheelchair accessible van, or stretcher van, used for transporting sick, injured, or convalescent persons.
- Place clients into wheelchairs or stretchers and secure them for transportation, alone or sometimes with assistance from others.
- Place clients that are already on stretchers or in wheelchairs into van.
- Accompany and assist emergency medical technicians on calls.
- Clean interior and exterior of vehicles or vehicle components as needed.
- Help maintain vehicle and maintenance record.
- Communicate with client regarding any transportation concerns and/or comfort level.
- Use personal cell to communicate with manager/dispatch and potential scheduling conflicts.
- Report facts concerning accidents or emergencies to immediate supervisor or law enforcement officials.
- Notify others of emergencies, problems, or hazards.
- Wear and/or use safety equipment (e.g. gloves, mechanical lifts, etc.) when moving or lifting clients.
- Refuel the vehicle.
Non-Essential Functions
- Complete timecard.
- Reposition unloaded vehicles.
- Maintain uniform and appearance.
- Assist in the operational training of other drivers.
Certification and License Requirements
- Must have and maintain a clean driving record along with a valid State driver’s license at all times.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Must be 25 years of age or older for insurance purposes.
Physical and Sensory Requirements (With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
- Must be able to bend at the waist, stoop, squat, kneel or crouch for several minutes at a time while securing clients or inspecting a vehicle.
- Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people.
- Must be able to lift up to 150 pounds.
- Must be able to support and/or push/pull up to 250 pounds.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Frequent pushing and pulling of wheelchairs and or stretchers transporting clients.
- Must be able to drive/operate a motor vehicle safely while following all traffic laws.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with clients, personnel, and support agencies.
