Job Overview
Everyone performing high-moderate complexity testing must possess a current license issued by the State in which the laboratory is located, if such licensing is required must meet one of the following requirements:
1. Be a Doctor of Medicine
2. Doctor of osteopathy or doctor of podiatric medicine licensed to practice medicine,
3. Osteopathy or podiatry in the State in which the laboratory is located or have earned a doctoral
4. Master's or bachelor's degree in a chemical
5. Physical, biological
6. Clinical laboratory science
7. Medical technology from an accredited institution
8. Earned an associate degree in a laboratory science
9. Medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
DUTIES
- Work as the Generalist CLS to perform assay(s) calibration, quality control, patient testing, clinical/non-clinical and release patient results through the LIS system.
- Ensure that all testing on all shifts is completed and ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
- Review QC LJ and ensure that QC is within appropriate limits and that all test results are accurate for all testing.
- Ensure that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems are from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
- Provide technical training and orientation in all areas of responsibility for both licensed and unlicensed employees as assigned by Technical Supervisor or General Supervisor.
- Confirm abnormal results and call the facility to obtain clinical information on patients with “rare and improbable” test results within specified TAT.
- Assist with the maintenance of the Technical Procedure Manuals and bring to management attention when a procedure needs revision.
- Work with vendors to bring new analyzers and/or methods on-line (if applicable).
- Oversee the inventory and ordering of supplies process.
- Oversee the lab assistants/technicians work and provide guidance as needed.
- Perform and record Proficiency Testing.
- Ensures all lab equipment is always calibrated and functions effectively.
- Ensures that the records are organized, neat and readily retrievable.
- Ensures that all specimens are organized and readily retrievable.
- Meets target dates and due dates for completion of tasks.
- Provides back up to any technical or clerical position as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Reports any issues to the laboratory management team.
- Identifies and pursues self-improvement needs.
- Seeks coaching/mentoring when appropriate.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBLITIES
- Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, HIPAA, State, COLA and CLIA.
- Provides leadership and support for the Compliance process within management area.
- Ensures timely and accurate reporting and responses to compliance-related issues and assists with implementation of corrective action plans related to such issues.
- Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to the COO or Lab Director.
- Provides open lines of communication regarding compliance issues within management areas and ensure that retaliation against staff who report suspected incidences of non-compliance does not occur.
- Participates in monitoring and auditing activities and investigations, and implementing quality improvement processes, as required.
- Participates in required orientation, Compliance, Safety, and HIPAA training programs.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Ability to perform complex lab tasks and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Critical analysis and complex problem solving.
- Computer and LIS proficient.
- At least one year of laboratory experience of his/her area of expertise.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Prior laboratory experience preferred.
- Bachelor in MT or CLS or other Science major
LICENSURE/CERTIFCATION
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) License
Shift: Tuesday - Saturday 7:00 PM - 3:30 AM. Hourly pay, plus pay differential, (DOE)
