What are the responsibilities and job description for the Communications Specialist ("Designer") position at HealthReach Community Health Centers?
— Communications Specialist ("Designer") —
Center: Central Administrative Office
City: Waterville
State: Maine
HealthReach Community Health Centers is a Maine-based 501c3 nonprofit organization composed of 12 Community Health Centers. One of our key slogans is, "patients before profits", and we offer a sliding scale so that our fees meet people where they're at, with $0 fees for patients with the greatest need based on family size and household income! In 2025, we're celebrating 50 years since our founding. For five decades, our mission has been to serve the otherwise medically underserved across rural Maine, and we do this by reducing and eliminating barriers to healthcare access. Two of our health centers host integrated dental centers. Our newest clinic is a School-Based Health Center, serving the students and staff of an entire school district! All of our clinics offer behavioral health services under the same roof. We welcome community members who are not established patients to access Substance Use Disorder treatment and health insurance sign-up support services.
We're continually seeking enthusiastic candidates to join HealthReach in our service to others through healing.

Are you an experienced Designer looking to work with a values-based, mission-driven nonprofit healthcare organization? Would you like to work in an environment where you will collaborate with stakeholders — from patients, to partner organizations, to Board members and colleagues — to develop compelling, accessible visual layouts and design elements that support strategic messaging objectives? Your team at HealthReach will be composed of colleagues who appreciate the opportunity to support vulnerable patients in rural communities, and who work together to improve both topical awareness and actual health outcomes.
HealthReach has a rare opportunity for a great candidate to engage in creative work within the non-profit public health/healthcare sphere. Firmly situated at the intersection of health, wellness, storytelling, education, rurality, and accessibility, our next Communications Specialist will influence how our community members across Central & Western Maine learn about and access affordable, high-quality healthcare close to home.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong skills in developing new ideas, readily receiving & acting on feedback, general design strategies, influencing audiences with compelling and cohesive visuals, and collaborating in a small (3) creative team environment set within a workforce of nearly 300. This is a permanent hourly full-time (36-40/wk) position, eligible for benefits. In addition to basic medical, dental, and vision coverage, our benefits notably include a pension plan with employer match. Expand your knowledge base with continuing education reimbursement and time granted to attend external training opportunities.
A hybrid work format is negotiable; applicants should be able to commute to our offices in Waterville, Maine, 3-5 days per typical workweek due to in-person business needs that include printing, other production, branded item distribution support, and more. This is a dynamic role that will keep your brain engaged, with periods of computer-based focus interspersed with periods of multitasking and occasional regional (Central & Western Maine) travel, particularly during the summer months.
