Job Overview

    

Women’s HOPE is a residential substance use disorder treatment program serving pregnant women and women with children, located in San Francisco’s Mission district. The program provides up to 6 months of treatment for 16 pregnant women and mothers. Many of these mothers are working to reunify and strengthen relationships with their children, while addressing their substance abuse and mental health challenges. Women's HOPE is a trauma-informed and gender-responsive program staffed by an interdisciplinary clinical team of substance abuse counselors, parenting counselors, and therapists. Women’s HOPE utilizes evidence-based curricula, individual psychotherapy, psychiatry and a community concept to care for some of San Francisco’s most vulnerable women. Our treatment team works closely with child welfare agencies and Family Treatment Court to promote successful family reunification.

The Residential Clinical Director functions as the on-site liaison between mental health services and other internal agency components as well as outside entities. Primary responsibilities include: contributing to the creation of the clinical schedule, elevating and overseeing the delivery of trauma informed and gender responsive care, assigning clients to staff and student therapists, chairing and creating the agenda for the weekly mental health team meeting, QI/QA responsibilities in regard to staff Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) documentation, and coordinating care with the medical team, including psychiatry, at HealthRIGHT 360 (HR360) clinics. Functions as liaison between the Mental Health component and Substance Use component of treatment and collaborates with program director. Oversight and collaboration with DMC treatment teams, which include substance abuse counselors, parenting counselors, and therapists. Consults with the Intake Department to ensure clients meet criteria for admission to the facility. Additional duties include assisting staff to achieve and maintain accuracy in multiple EHR systems, ensuring mental health clinical coverage, and providing or assigning crisis intervention services as needed. The Clinical Director also provides individual and group services to clients.

         

Key Responsibilities

    

Administrative/coordinating Responsibilities: Acts liaison between the mental health facility staff and other internal agency components and outside entities. Assists facility staff in the creation of a clinical schedule. Assigns mental health staff to groups and assigns clients to staff and student therapists. Actively manages therapist caseloads to ensure productivity meets agency requirements. Each therapist is expected to provide direct services weekly with a combination of group and individual services. Ensures mental health coverage for the facility (e.g., assists staff in coordinating time off, ensuring coverage during the holidays and minimizing gaps in coverage due to required trainings, etc.). Provides oversight for all treatment teams under the Drug Medi-Cal (DMC) model, which includes ensuring clinical team leaders/therapists meet with their teams on a weekly basis and attend to all administrative and compliance requirements, (e.g., adhering to strict DMC review and signature timelines for paperwork and completion of all action/follow-up items, etc.). Send the clinic referrals from facility to the designated liaison at the clinic who handles Mental Health referrals. Receive clinic appointments and follow through to ensure staff and clients are aware of scheduled appointments. Assist to ensure timely correction of errors for staff relating to multiple EHR systems with a maximum turnaround time of 24 business hours. The Clinical Director will provide consultation as needed to staff at all levels within the facility. Assist with psychological crisis either directly or by assigning other mental health staff as appropriate. Clinical Director also serves to ‘set the tone’ of treatment by working to establish, maintain and foster an environment of safety within the treatment facility. Works to maintain and foster staff moral within the facility. Works to establish and maintain staff compliance with DMC documentation requirements.

Direct Service responsibilities: Conducts assessments, provides individual therapy, conducts curriculum-based classes and process groups, provides crisis intervention services as needed, and participates with clients in collateral meetings including Family and Children’s Services, Family Treatment Court, Homeless Prenatal Program, and more.

Individual Treatment Responsibilities: Manages an individual therapy caseload. Performs individual psychotherapy services in a residential setting and on an outpatient basis as needed. Provides counseling, support and psycho-education about health and mental health problems that include screening clients for appropriate levels of services, assessments, treatment planning, case management, and referrals. Maintains confidentiality while working as part of a treatment team and adhering with program norms. Participates in case conferences, treatment planning and clinical discussions to provide holistic care. Communicates with prescribing psychiatrists regarding psychotropic medication compliance, side effects, and follow up appointments. Communicates and collaborates with external systems and providers clients are involved with including Family and Children’s Services, Family Treatment Court, Dependency Court, Homeless Prenatal Program, Public Health Nurses, Infant Parent Program, Medication Assisted Treatment providers, primary and prenatal care providers, mental health providers and more.

Treatment Setting Responsibilities: Facilitates/co-facilitates process and psycho-educational groups for chronically mentally ill pregnant women and women with children with co-morbid substance abuse diagnoses. Models are supports quality mother/child interaction in the milieu and in sessions. Assists Intake Department with initial psychological assessments for individuals seeking admission to program. Assists clients and their care coordinators with referrals and other linkages to community resources. Performs floor duties in the milieu that include (but are not limited to) assisting clients in coordinating outside appointments and transportation, overseeing client participation in program activities, monitoring medications compliance, and mediating client conflict when it arises. Actively participate with the treatment team to continuously assess and refine clinical programming efforts. Manages client risk and crisis intervention. On-call after hours phone rotation as well as rotating ‘Therapist of the Day’ responsibilities during regular business hours. Attends staff and agency meetings. Participates in agency trainings as required. Complies with Board requirements for license registration/renewal.

Documentation Responsibilities: Conducts assessments, completes ANSAs, develops treatment plans, completes release and consent forms, billing and reporting paperwork in hard copy and online in various electronic systems. Completes Medicare, Medi-Cal, and Drug Medi-Cal documentation and billing. Documents individual and group services delivered in various electronic systems in accordance with guidelines established by HealthRIGHT 360 to satisfy internal and external evaluating requirements.

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    

Required:

  • California licensure as a Psychologist, LMFT, LPCC, or LCSW.
  • Experience with Welligent/AVATAR EHR systems.
  • Experience with Mental Health or Drug Medi-Cal procedures.
  • Minimum two years of experience in dual diagnosis substance abuse treatment in an inpatient or outpatient community mental health setting.
  • Supervised experience in mental health or psychiatric setting with varied populations.
  • Demonstrated clinical paperwork and record keeping abilities.
  • Familiarity with trauma informed therapy models, cognitive–behavioral therapy, brief psychotherapy and psycho-educational approaches, and knowledge of child development and positive parenting approaches.
  • Familiarity with working with psychotic and other severe mental health presentations.
  • Ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Clinical experience in performing risk assessment and crisis intervention.

Desired:

  • Clinical experience and understanding of issues related to child development and parenting.
  • Clinical experience and understanding of issues related to HIV/AIDS.
  • Experience working with children and/or families.
