Job Overview

    

Withdrawal Management staff provide support to individuals withdrawing from alcohol and/or drugs within a non-medical, residential facility. As a part of this collaborative team, you will ensure client safety and comfort at this early stage of their recovery. Our Withdrawal Management Team observes and monitors clients, role models and demonstrates healthy lifestyle behaviors, completes documentation (including documenting rounds and observations every 30 minutes), and assist in connecting our clients to ongoing service and supports. Our staff also monitor client medication adherence and support brief service plans and discharge plans.

 

         

Key Responsibilities

    

Individual Treatment Responsibilities:  

  • Treats clients with respect and dignity, interacting with them in a caring, non-judgmental manner.
  • Delivers brief, solution-focused interventions using Motivational Interviewing techniques.
  • Proactively links clients to both internal and external resources based on their treatment needs and follows up on their progress.

Treatment Setting Responsibilities:

  • Monitors clients’ safety and well-being, ensuring their withdrawal symptoms are being monitored appropriately.
  • Monitors withdrawal symptoms, documents client medications and alerts medical professionals to any issues which impact client’s safe withdrawal.
  • Supports implementation of brief service plans and/or discharge plans.
  • Provides individual or group psychoeducation to enhance client motivation to change.
  • Maintains a safe and clean facility.
  • Attends to crisis situations (i.e. disagreements, client needs) focusing on defusing situations before they escalate.
  • Interacts with other addiction agencies and community services including EMTs.
  • Provides clients with information regarding treatment options, and makes referrals as required.

Documentation Responsibilities:

  • Complete observation sheets according to documentation standards.
  • Properly documents all individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Maintains accurate records using electronic health record system (EHR).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to deal with seriously addicted and mentally ill clients and their families.
  • Ability to observe and recognize behavioral and/or health status changes in clients.
  • Ability to facilitate supportive and educational groups.
  • Ability to role model healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Ability to set and maintain boundaries.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize own workload.
  • Conflict resolution and crisis intervention skills.
  • Ability to operate related equipment and software programs such as word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Required:

  • Desire to contribute to a safe and supportive environment for those experiencing drug and alcohol dependency and mental health symptoms.
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
  • Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population.
  • Strong initiative and enthusiasm and willingness to pitch in whenever needed.
  • Able to work within a frequently changing environment while maintaining overall direction and structured priorities.
  • Professional, punctual, flexible and reliable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of interdisciplinary team and independently assume responsibility.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of co-occurring disorders and trauma informed treatment.
  • Knowledge of clinical documentation (treatment plans, progress notes etc.).
  • Experience working with criminal justice populations.
  • Bilingual.

         

Education and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    

Education Required:

  • Drug and Alcohol Registration or Certification recognized by DHCS.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Works swing shift (3pm-11:30pm) and weekends. Works holidays as needed.
  • First Aid Certified within 30 days of employment.
  • CPR Certified within 30 days of employment.
  • A valid California driver’s license.

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field. 

Background Clearance Required:

  • Must be able to pass background clearance.

The hours for this position are swing shift (3pm - 11:30pm) and weekends. Works holidays as needed.
