- Graduate of an accredited nursing program possessing a current Michigan license required.
- Demonstrated expertise in clinical practice. Bachelor’s Degree with minimum of 3-5 years’ experience required. Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in one or more of the following clinical areas is highly desirable: Medical Rehabilitation , Behavioral Medicine or Long-Term Care Services.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with prior experience in education role preferred.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and the teaching/learning process acquired through continuing education activities and/or formal academic classes.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Supports organization’s strategic initiatives through training and development at the program level. (Program Educator-Long Term Care or Program Educator-Hospital)
- Acts as a role model for the HSS Mission, Vision, Values and Leadership Expectations and displays excellence in clinical practice, policy and procedure.
- Designs, develops, coordinates and delivers training, education and coaching for staff which is unique to program patient/resident populations served.
- Responsible for program specific new hire orientation, competency assessment, annual training/assessments and records of learning for staff as assigned.
- Manages onboarding of new hires on the units by identifying onboarding partners, assessing onboarding checklist completion, and directly training and coaching new hires directly on the units.
- The Program Educator is not assigned direct patient/resident care responsibilities, but may assist in direct care during training activities.
- Collaborates with Facility Educator and leadership to assess and update annual training and competency assessment plans facility-wide. Deploys and monitors plans as approved to meet staff perceived needs, departmental requirements, performance improvement and other systems.
- Supports and participates in the Performance Improvement Process focusing on program patient/resident safety initiatives.
- Supports development and training of evidence-based policies, procedures, standards, practices and programs that provide safe, quality and cost-effective patient/resident care services.
- Actively participates in nursing leadership forums and other patient/resident safety and quality committees as assigned. Is a member of QAPI (LTC Program Educator) or PIC (Hospital Program Educator).
- Develops and a maintains training materials for program specific training. Coordinates with Facility Educator on training coordination and delivery as needed.
- Maintains training records for program in the learning management system (LMS/Relias) and/or by other methods that are compliant with internal standards and outside regulatory agency requirements.
- Collaborates with Facility Educator for program specific clinical placement of nursing or other clinical student/interns in order to accomplish designated learning objectives along with the safe provision of patient/resident care activities. (ie. ACEMAPP)
- Assists Facility Educator for program specific training or maintenance of the facility learning management system, Relias LMS. Is able to answer questions and train on functionality for LMS. Is able to assign, create, monitor assignments, and collaborates with leaders to assess compliance and new course development.
- Maintains professional competence, certifications and licensure in area of expertise through continuing education and training activities. Maintains current knowledge of advancements in areas of responsibility, including but not limited to technology, business practices, healthcare trends and performance standards.
- Primary educator for program specific topics during new hire orientation, annual comp stomp events, SECURE, and electronic medical record training.
- Assists Facility Educator to deliver BLS/CPR training and other facility wide education required of staff. Serves as a back-up to Facility Educator for general training topics or learning events during new hire week or throughout the year as needed.
- Assists Facility Educator with onboarding of program Medical Students, Interns and other medical providers.
- Is proficient in IT systems used by clinical staff such as the learning management system, intranet, policy repository and electronic medical records.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with staff across departments to lead or support projects, systems, efficiency, education, safety, and outstanding patient/resident care.
- Positively represents facility and works effectively within the community to promote good will and garner support for the HSS Mission.
- Responsible to provide program specific reports/audits to support education/competency inquiries from regulatory agencies and collaborates to create required plans of correction with Nurse Leadership.
