We seek a Lead Full Stack Architect & Backend Engineer to drive high-performance system architecture, backend engineering, and AI-driven solutions within a secure, AWS-based, microservices environment.
Role OverviewWe are looking for an experienced technical leader with a strong backend engineering background who can also architect and scale full-stack enterprise solutions. This person will design, develop, and lead critical engineering initiatives, ensuring high availability, compliance, and security in a regulated, data-intensive environment (HIPAA, SOC-2).
This role blends architectural leadership, hands-on coding, and mentorship while driving cloud-based microservices, AI/ML integrations, and best practices for scaling SaaS applications.
This is a remote position, but candidates must be based in the United States and able to pass background checks as required by federal and state contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Design & scale distributed, microservices-based systems on AWS with a focus on performance, reliability, and security.
- Drive backend development (Python/Django) while ensuring integration with modern frontend frameworks(React, Angular, Vue).
- Define and implement best practices for data architecture, ETL pipelines, AI/ML workflows, and integrations.
- Establish secure coding standards and compliance-driven architectural decisions (HIPAA, SOC-2, FISMA).
- Optimize CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and containerization strategies for high-availability applications.
- Lead the development of scalable, secure APIs & backend services using Python, Django, and Django Rest Framework.
- Develop technical design documents (TDDs) outlining API and data models based on product requirements.
- Drive best practices in server-side architecture, authentication/authorization (RBAC, OAuth, SSO), and data rights management.
- Write high-quality, scalable code, setting the technical bar for backend development.
- Champion AI innovation both with internal tools and within the products we deliver with a focus on compliance and efficiency.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/ML solutions (TensorFlow, PyTorch, AWS AI) where applicable.
- Enforce secure software development lifecycle and best practices in encryption, access control, and governance.
- Guide teams in adhering to data privacy laws and audit trail management.
- Oversee CI/CD automation, ensuring robust infrastructure as code (AWS CodePipeline, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes).
- Participate as needed in annual security and compliance audits.
- Proven ability to lead teams, drive technical strategy and efficiency.
- Collaborate with Product Managers & Engineers to define solutions, estimate effort, and drive delivery.
- Lead technical reviews, code quality enforcement, and process improvements.
- Mentor engineers as needed, conduct PR/code reviews, and establish a culture of continuous innovation.
- Interview and assess new technical hires to expand the engineering team.

- 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership/architect role.

- Deep understanding of microservices design, data pipelines, and AI integrations.

- Expertise in security & compliance (HIPAA, SOC-2, NIST, FedRAMP, secure API design).
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience in regulated industries (government, healthcare, finance).
- Familiarity with AI/ML development, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and AWS AI services.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
