The Mammography Technologist is responsible for performing high-quality mammography procedures using specialized X-ray equipment. This role involves conducting screenings and diagnostic studies, ensuring patient safety, and delivering exceptional patient care. The technician must evaluate images for technical quality, including aspects such as density, contrast, and definition. This position plays a critical role in early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases.
- Operate specialized mammography equipment to perform screening and diagnostic mammograms in accordance with physician orders.
- Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the process, addressing concerns, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Evaluate mammography images for technical quality, including density, contrast, definition, and distortion, making adjustments as needed.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation, adhering to compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Clean, maintain, and perform routine adjustments on mammography equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
- Assist the radiologist in special procedures such as biopsies, localization, and additional diagnostic studies as required.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines, including infection control and radiation protection protocols.
- Participate in quality control procedures and maintain compliance with accreditation standards.
- Stay up to date with advancements in mammography technology, techniques, and best practices.
