Summary
This colleague independently performs a variety of assignments related to Energy Assessment, Energy Conservation, Facility Optimization, and Commissioning/Validation projects. While having independent responsibility for all or portions of projects, this position fosters a collaborative approach to all activities and works effectively with other practice colleagues.
Qualifications
This position normally requires a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program and a working knowledge of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design equipment. This position requires 6 - 9 years of prior relevant experience in energy engineering in the Built Environment. Equivalent working knowledge/prior experience as a Co-op or Intern or advanced degree may be considered in lieu of a 4-year engineering degree. The incumbent in this position has achieved Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Certification and either achieved or is in the process of gaining a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) accreditation. This position should have achieved or is working toward an appropriate Commissioning Certification, as coordinated with the Practice Operations Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains clear knowledge of HEAPY Corporate Vision, Mission, and Core Values and demonstrates awareness of how those objectives relate to all position responsibilities.
- Approaches all assigned tasks as an opportunity for growth and experience, modeling the way for other team members.
- Continually advances technical education and personal development aligned with goals, leveraging senior leadership expertise to guide and support colleagues and mentees in achieving their development objectives.
- Collaborates with engineering colleagues to develop and perform system installation verification, and functional performance testing.
- Mentors colleagues and supports the OKRI process at the request of the Operations Manager or Practice Technical Leader.
- Collaborates with engineering colleagues to perform onsite validation and review of equipment and controls to identify proper operation and/or opportunities to improve performance.
- Collaborates with engineering colleagues to prepare and review energy calculations, utility rate structures, testing procedures, plans, or reports involving HVAC, lighting, standby power, and other energy-consuming or producing equipment, components, or systems.
- Collaborates with engineering colleagues to verify that owners' project requirements are met from project design through operations.
- Prepares routine technical reports or sections of reports.
- Executes various computer-based building modeling programs to evaluate system performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to remain sedentary at desk for long periods of time while operating a keyboard and using a computer screen.
- Ability to communicate in person, electronically and via phone with other individuals.
- Possession of reliable transportation to and from the project.
- Ability to work in all elements of indoor and outdoor environments which include the heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, etc.
- Ability to access all areas of the jobsite with activities that include ascending and descending stairs, scaffolding, ladders, navigating elevation changes, etc.
- Capable of working in physical positions that may include maneuvering self into different positions traditionally is achieved by kneeling, sitting, standing, squatting, bending over, etc.
- Ability to move, transport, or position items weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to apply established protocols and practices in a timely manner.
- Ability to gather, organize and evaluate information related to projects and calculations (such as energy calculations, percentages, numerical reasoning, etc.).
