Summary
Reporting to the Technical Leader, this position oversees a small group (2-8 colleagues) of similar discipline engineers, designers, and BIM technicians assembled to focus on completing projects. The Group Manager fosters the growth and development of HEAPY colleagues by identifying opportunities and experiences that challenge colleagues and enable them to work together in a learning environment.
This colleague collaborates with the Technical Leaders, Project Managers, and other Group Managers to ensure that HEAPY colleagues have the clarity and opportunity to be successful, assigning appropriate tasks that develop colleagues, and stay aligned to thrill clients by providing quality deliverables.
Qualifications
This position normally requires a 4-year engineering degree from an ABET accredited program and typically 10 years of related experience (or equivalent working knowledge/experience/advanced degree in engineering) related to mechanical engineering systems in the Built Environment. Or 6 years experience in a mechanical engineering position at HEAPY. Candidates should have considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated mechanical engineering and design equipment. Top candidates would be in possession of a Professional Engineering (PE) Registration and provide direct oversight and responsible charge over projects for which they are involved. Candidates must demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment while ensuring that the Client’s Guiding Principles and project Sustainability and Resiliency Goals are always in sight and aligned. The Group Manager expresses strong leadership characteristics coupled with proven design or building optimization experience of the discipline.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains clear knowledge of HEAPY Corporate Vision, Mission, and Core Values and demonstrates awareness of how those objectives relate to all position responsibilities.
- Approaches all assigned tasks as an opportunity for growth and experience, modeling the way for other team members.
- Continually advances technical education and personal development aligned with goals, leveraging senior leadership expertise to guide and support colleagues and mentees in achieving their development objectives.
- Provides leadership to two or more Design Engineers / Designer I & II colleagues on their technical development and professional growth, supporting the OKR process and providing guidance and mentorship on both technical development and project responsibilities.
- Leads and executes Technical Engineering, Quality Design and/or Optimization strategies.
- Collaborates with Technical Leaders to determine long-range and short-range plans, objectives, and staffing.
- Proactively informs project managers to enable active management of project plans.
- Coordinates Quality Control Project Reviews and Checks for project deliverables.
- Collaborates with group members to determine specific project staffing needs and achievement of projects; makes changes as necessary to support project success for client.
- Supports project troubleshooting and problem solving. Innovates new solutions and fosters “Outside the box thinking” and a culture of discovery and evolution.
- Actively manages colleague development and ensures progress for all group colleagues.
- Identifies colleague training opportunities.
- Evaluates performance of direct reports and coordinates with Technical Leaders the financial compensation of colleagues within the Group.
- Performs annual reviews for all group members.
- Manages personnel administration of group members, such as reviewing and approving time sheets for accuracy and timeliness, partnering with HR on team requests, etc.
- Other responsibilities as needed.
