Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls from the public.
- Analyze information provided by callers to determine the appropriate response.
- Maintain accurate records of all communications and actions taken during incidents.
- Type and transcribe detailed reports of calls and dispatches for future reference.
- Communicate clearly with law enforcement personnel and other emergency responders.
- Ensure all data entry is completed accurately and promptly.
- This job requires multi-tasking skills and the ability to make quick decisions in violent and/or highly emotional situations while maintaining a courteous, call, and effective demeanor utilizing a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system
- You will enter and retrieve information in the system for the public, officers, and other agencies. You will dispatch officers over the radio to calls for service, maintain an accurate radio log, answer all radio traffic, and update the CAD system and officers with pertinent information
Requirements
- Must have a Valid Texas Driver's License
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in dispatching or emergency management is preferred.
- Strong typing skills with a focus on accuracy and speed at least 35 wpm.
- Ability to analyze information quickly and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Previous experience in dispatching or a related field is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety in TCIC/NCIC operations within 6 months of employment. Ability to be licensed as a basic Telecommunications Operator by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one year of employment.
- Pass a drug and a complete background check.
