What are the responsibilities and job description for the Newscast Director position at Hearst Media Services?
WCVB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Needham, MA, has an opening for an experienced and dynamic News Director. This full-time member of the NewsCenter 5 team is responsible for leading the technical execution of live newscasts, major events, and sports specials. WCVB directors also oversee the production of recorded programs and specials. Our directors work alongside producers and technical staff and collaborate with colleagues from departments outside of the news. This position reports to the Executive Producer.
Responsibilities
- Direct live newscasts and other live and recorded programs
- Working with producers, focus on enhancing the production value of all locally produced shows and events (this includes creating impactful pre-production elements)
- Lead the way in ensuring the flawless technical execution of all programming, whether live or recorded
Requirements
- 4 years directing live newscasts and other programs
- Technical know-how to resolve existing issues and find fast solutions to problems that arise during live shows
- Ability to remain calm in high-pressure, live production situations
- Experience with various production switchers, video servers, video playback, audio and studio equipment
- Understanding of newscast formatting software (ENPS, iNews, etc.)
- Ability to work flexible hours and shifts, including holidays and weekends
- Related military experience will be considered
- Must be a member of or join the Directors Guild of America
- In-person attendance is required
