What are the responsibilities and job description for the Morning Executive Producer position at Hearst Television?
WGAL TV, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-Lebanon-York, PA market, is looking for an Executive Producer who can oversee fast-paced morning newscasts in a rapidly growing news market. We need a driven, organized leader who can articulate a vision for our shows and lead a team toward that vision. You are a leader who can develop multi-platform content that succeeds on-air, on mobile, and on social media. The Executive Producer is responsible for the overall look and feel of assigned newscasts, management of all aspects of breaking news, and social engagement. The right candidate must be a pro when it comes to effective communication and decision-making under daily deadline pressure. You can juggle both the “right now” news while also planning enterprise morning coverage days and weeks in advance. The Executive Producer will work on recruiting producers and work closely with the News Director to implement winning strategies. The ideal candidate has an aggressive approach to Breaking News when it comes and, when it doesn’t, can still oversee a compelling product that delivers interesting and relevant content to our viewers. You must also be a coach and leader with the communications skills to make those you supervise better. You will report to the News Director.
Job Responsibilities
- Work with newsroom managers and colleagues to craft and carry out successful news strategies rooted in research and experience
- Oversight of the preparation of a rundown and scripts for morning newscasts
- Oversight of the use of all our graphics resources to enhance our presentation
- Coaching producers, reporters, photojournalists, and assignment editors
- Research, pitch, and gather enterprise news stories
- Responding to breaking news
- Oversight of digital response to breaking news and social media engagement
- Writing compelling news stories in active voice
- Meeting deadlines
- News gathering
- Boothing and producing newscasts when needed
- Posting stories and videos on all web platforms (website, social media, etc)
- Must perform administrative duties including scheduling, performance reviews, training and providing critical feedback
- Communicating effectively with news staff, promotions, and production / engineering
- In-person attendance is required
