Job DescriptionManaging EditorHearst Connecticut Media Group's journalists cover communities all over the state, serving readers across platforms, including our sites like CTInsider.com, app, newsletters, social media accounts and more for nine daily and 21 weekly newspapers.The Managing Editor will help lead state-level excellence across multiple newsrooms at the largest media network in the state. This dynamic leader will be joining HCMG at a time of growth, spurred by quality, award-winning journalism, both locally and statewide.This person will be responsible for coaching and editing reporters, coordinating coverage with other editors and pushing the boundaries on story forms.Our state-level reporters cover real estate, health care, jobs, retail and other business, education, politics, government and general topics of statewide interest. This role includes supporting areas such as data reporting and weather coverage, while also working closely with HCMG's award-winning visual and data visualization teams and exploring areas where AI can responsibly inform our journalism.We are looking for a talented editor who will continue to evolve what we do both in real time as the news happens, as well as strategically in the long term. With a focus on news and enterprise of statewide interest, and an emphasis on digital-first storytelling, this newsroom leader is a forward-looking journalist who understands the quality, cadence and various formats of stories needed to inform readers.The candidate must have a strong grasp of the operations of all newsroom departments, as well as newsroom standards and journalistic principles. This leader should also have a strong track record when it comes to diversity, equity and inclusion from evolving and expanding the breadth of our coverage in this vital area, to supporting a thoughtful and inclusive culture within our newsrooms.Duties and responsibilities : Works collaboratively with editors, other reporters, photographers and audience team members to tell impactful stories across platforms that engage and retain local subscribers and other readers.Conceptualize and assign stories aimed at growing digital subscriptions, guiding staffers through the reporting process and editing their work with excellent command of grammar, usage and AP style.Elevate our journalism by seizing opportunities for in-depth enterprise and investigative stories that have statewide, and at times national, reach.Communicates quickly and effectively with reporters to break news online and follows up when appropriate with more in-depth enterprise pieces.Demonstrates a high comfort level with analyzing and interpreting metrics and uses them to inform coverage decisions in real-time and the long-term.Develops the talents of staffers, offering constructive criticism of their work.
