Role Overview: The Venture Analyst will play a pivotal role in supporting our investment process through financial modeling, market research, deal diligence, and investment recommendations. This individual will not only deliver reliable, high-quality analyses but will also leverage networking to support deal sourcing. A successful Senior Analyst combines strong analytical skills with strategic insight and initiative, adding depth to our team’s decision-making process.
Key Responsibilities:
In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in New York State. The reasonable estimate, if hired in New York State, is $95,000-$105,000. Please note this information is specific to those hired in New York State. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education. Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Modeling & Analysis: Create and maintain detailed financial models for evaluating potential investments and monitoring portfolio company performance.
- Assess financial performance and synthesize data into actionable recommendations.
- Market Research & Sizing: Conduct top-down and bottom-up market research, competitive analysis, and market sizing. Provide data-driven insights on industry trends, opportunities, and risks, helping to shape investment theses.
- Deal Diligence: Execute comprehensive due diligence, analyzing market positioning, financials, risks, and strategic fit for potential investments.
- Deal Sourcing & Networking: Engage in networking and relationship-building to identify and source promising investment opportunities. Maintain a proactive approach to discovering emerging startups and industries.
- Investment Recommendations: Go beyond data analysis to offer investment recommendations based on findings. Work closely with senior team members to translate insights into clear, actionable plans.
- Experience: Strong foundations in financial modeling, market research, and due diligence.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical and quantitative abilities, proficient in Excel and financial modeling tools, with experience turning data into strategic insights.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication and presentation skills
- Adaptability: Understand different business models and industry dynamics. Intellectual curiosity and the ability to quickly learn new information.
- Networking Skills: Proven track record in relationship-building and deal sourcing, with exhibited success in proactive networking activities.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, ideally with coursework in quantitative analysis.
- Internship or work experience in a startup, private equity or venture capital unit of a company or firm.
