Heart House Summer Youth Teaching Associates
Heart House in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Dallas, TX welcomes AmeriCorps members in collaboration with Equal Heart. The mission of Heart House is to empower refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children in Vickery Meadow by providing enhanced opportunities for educational equity through literacy and social-emotional learning.
· The AmeriCorps Teaching Associate will assist and lead students in innovative academic lessons and activities, mentor students regularly, assist with student assessments, and tutor students if needed.

Members serve to support the Heart House’s goal to use education as a catalyst to combat poverty and promote equity for some of the most vulnerable in our city: children living in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Dallas, Texas. For the summer program, members are expected to:
- Assist with leading and supervising students in the out-of-school time space.
- Help students with academic lessons and activities, lunchtime and snacks.
- Ensure the program site is clean, organized, safe, and conducive to working with children.
- Act as a mentor for students and build positive relationships with them.
- Participate in various trainings and professional development activities.
- Assist with administering student assessments and collecting data.
- Provide one-on-one assistance to students who need additional help with their lessons
This location requires a total service commitment of 300 hours

- Members will be paid $3,000 (broken down and paid in twice monthly installments during the term)

Minimum Qualifications:
- Available from May 26-August 15, 2025 (12 weeks)
- Available 26 hours per week: Monday-Friday 10am-3pm
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Deferred action and temporary permanent resident do not qualify)
- Able to access reliable transportation
- Able to pass a criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some college and/or nonprofit experience
- Intercultural experience working with children
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus (not required)
