Position: Interior Designer

Summary:

The Interior Designer is responsible for the efficient and cost-effective procurement of materials for construction projects, while also playing a key role in the design process. This role involves ordering materials based on provided lists, collaborating closely with the Project Manager to ensure timely delivery and alignment with project aesthetics, managing job site and shop inventory, and providing regular updates on material status. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, a keen eye for design, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Purchasing: Handle purchasing on Home Depot (VIP account), Amazon, and other suppliers.
  • Design Integration, Cohesive and Aesthetic Project Design
  • Collaborate with the project manager on material selections, ensuring they meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.
  • Participate in design discussions and decisions regarding kitchen layouts, paint color palettes, door styles, and other design elements.

Research and present material options that align with the project's design vision and budget.
Ensure that all procured materials are consistent with the approved design specifications.

  • Timeline Tracking: Assist Project Managers in maintaining schedules and updating Buildertrend.
  • Job site Maintenance: Ensure projects remain clean, orderly, and facilitate returns as needed.
  • Daily Logs: Visit active job sites and document progress.
  • Weekly Drive-bys: Inspect projects for compliance and cleanliness.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain shop inventory and find cost-saving measures for materials.
  • Maintain: Maintain shop cleanliness and facilitate proper disposal of garbage.
  • General Assistance: Support Project Managers with last-minute orders, supply runs, and other needs.

A Daily Schedule for the Interior Designer

This is a general daily schedule, and the actual flow may vary based on project needs, deadlines, and unforeseen circumstances. Flexibility and adaptability are key in this role.

Morning (8:00 AM - 12:00 PM): Begin the day with a team huddle, reviewing emails and Buildertrend notifications, processing ongoing orders, and building new orders from provided lists.

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Start the day with a review of emails and Buildertrend notification. Check for urgent requests from project managers, delivery confirmations, and any reported issues at job sites. Prioritize tasks for the day.

9:00 AM – 9:30 AM: Plan material needs for upcoming projects. Review material lists provided by project managers. Identify any long-lead items that need immediate attention.

9:30 AM – 12:00 AM: Build out purchase order lists on Home Depot and submit through the VIP email account. Ensure accuracy in quantities and material type. Forward POs to the project manager for approval if there is any chance of error. Review all on-going orders through the VIP Account and take the necessary action.

10:30 AM - 12:00 PM: Address any outstanding material issues. This could include tracking delayed deliveries, resolving discrepancies in orders received, or finding alternative suppliers for unavailable items. Communicate updates to project managers. Prepare for job site visits by compiling a list of all recently delivered materials, including receipts for those materials.

12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch break.

1:00 PM – 3:30 PM: Complete any unfinished orders. Address any outstanding material issues. This could include tracking delayed deliveries, resolving discrepancies in orders received, or finding alternative suppliers for unavailable items. Communicate updates to project managers. Prepare for job site visits by compiling a list of all recently delivered large material orders, including receipts for those materials. Respond to any remaining emails or messages. Finalize any urgent tasks. Review the schedule for the next day.

3:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Job site visits. Travel to assigned project sites.

  • Verify delivered materials against orders.
  • Conduct on-site inventory checks.
  • Take photos of delivered materials.
  • Document delivered materials and any discrepancies in Buildertrend with detailed text updates.

Weekly Tasks:

In addition to daily tasks, the Materials Purchasing Manager also performs weekly tasks such as:

  • Reviewing overall inventory levels across all job sites and the shop.
  • Evaluating supplier performance.
  • Analyzing material costs and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Updating and maintaining inventory records.
  • Building out New Project Design Plans (1-2 New Projects Weekly)

Note: This is a general outline, and the specific tasks and their timing may vary depending on the number of active projects, and the complexity of the materials being purchased. The Materials Purchasing Manager should be able to prioritize tasks effectively, manage their time efficiently, and adapt to changing circumstances.

Qualifications:
- Basic Construction Knowledge, some experience in the field to understand materials
- Design Experience, previous projects and references to see what level of design work you've done, plus some examples of what you could do.
- Good management skills, people skills and the ability to multi-task and work with a fast-paced team.
- Has experience with the software described above (all not required, but at least some).

We are a family owned, family operated Real Estate investing company with a heavy focus on construction renovation. We purchase and restore old, dilapidated homes to give them a new life, "flipping" them. Our focus is providing a high quality home at a fair price to entry level homes in the Spokane/North Idaho area.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
