Estimator β Agricultural Construction
We are seeking an experienced Estimator with a background in agricultural construction to join our team. This role is integral to the successful management of budgets, trade partner bids, and material take-offs for key client projects. From the initial project conception through to the completion of Issue for Construction documents, the Estimator ensures accurate and timely project forecasts while meeting all deadlines.
The Estimator will collaborate with both internal and external teams and take ownership of the following key phases :
1. Project Design
- Review the initial scope of work and design with the Preconstruction Manager (PCM).
- Identify and address any gaps in the scope of work in collaboration with the PCM.
2. Detailed Development
Prepare the work to be estimated by gathering scopes of work, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.Analyze proposals, blueprints, and specifications to identify labor, material, and time requirements.Develop and issue vendor and subcontractor Requests for Quotes (RFQs).Collect and review preliminary information from trade partners and maintain organized bid documentation.Accurately transpose bid costs into estimate spreadsheets.Assign correct phase codes to cost areas during the bidding process.Resolve bid discrepancies by analyzing and collecting relevant information.Review and discuss completed estimates with the PCM.Prepare special reports summarizing trends and key project insights.Stay up-to-date on industry knowledge through workshops and technical publications.Maintain composure under tight deadlines while accurately forecasting project budgets.3. Material List & Bid Execution
Verify and adjust material books, subcontractor quotes, and vendor bids for accuracy.Ensure material books have appropriate phase codes.Collaborate with Account Managers, Project Managers, and PCM to determine preferred vendors.Transfer all subcontractor information to the Project Manager for bid awarding and subcontract development.Work closely with the PCM and purchasing team to ensure estimates are turned into executable items.4. Project Review & Updates
Assist the PCM with change order bidding, as necessary.Coordinate site visits with the PCM, Project Manager, and Director of Preconstruction.Participate in pre- and post-construction meetings with internal teams.Attend project update meetings as needed.Provide insight into future project improvements based on financial reviews during the construction phase.5. Additional Responsibilities
Responsibilities may vary depending on the type and complexity of each project.Manage the entire process of taking projects from initial estimate to executed material purchases, ensuring seamless transition between phases.Ideal Candidate

Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience in estimating and coordinating design bids, specifically within the agricultural construction sector.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.Experience with developing budgets and estimates, delegating tasks, and following up.Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.Working Environment
This position may be remote or based in the Columbus, Nebraska office.Occasional travel to job sites may be required, including walking uneven terrain, climbing stairs, ladders, or navigating restricted spaces.Benefits & Opportunities
