GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position is responsible for the general maintenance and sanitation in a residential facility. The custodian ensures that the facility is clean, orderly, and sanitary, and that needed repairs are completed or reported to the agency maintenance unit. The custodian receives specific instructions and general supervision in the performance of responsibilities. Work is subject to inspection upon completion.
EXAMPLES OF WORK
Work may include, but is not limited to, the following examples:
Remains alert during working hours; attends work as scheduled, and complies with attendance policies.
Completes a daily walk through of assigned areas of responsibilities.
Performs routine facility custodial duties. Initiates work orders for more complex facility repairs. Works directly with maintenance staff to develop a plan/prioritization of maintenance projects.
Initiates cleaning details. May work with security officers to assign work details to offenders. Supervises the completion of cleaning details, including: offender dorms, bathrooms, laundry rooms, TV room, common areas, hallways, and stairways.
Maintains daily sanitation/maintenance log identifying completed details and submits the log to the facility director, weekly.
Completes regularly scheduled floor maintenance to include waxing of all tiled floors and steam cleaning of carpeted areas as necessary.
Vacuums weekly, and removes trash, three (3) times weekly from all staff offices.
Maintains the confidentiality of information appropriately.
Complies with Code of Conduct and reports violations immediately.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in housekeeping work
Ability to understand and follow instruction
Ability to perform a variety of routine manual tasks requiring the exertion of physical strength in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of a building and equipment
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to perform elementary work in a variety of building trades.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle and/or motorized equipment when necessary to perform assignments.
Ability to work outdoors under varying weather conditions as necessary to perform duties
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED;
AND
2. One (1) or more years of work experience in custodial or maintenance trade.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
No candidate may be considered for employment who is, or has been for the past two (2) years under the supervision of Federal, State, and/or County Corrections Department nor have any pending felony or misdemeanor charges other than minor traffic charges.
Driving may be required for this position. The successful candidate must have and remain in possession of a valid current driver’s license, automobile insurance, and be insurable under the agency’s motor vehicle insurance policy.
All candidates must successfully pass a criminal history background check conducted by the federal government and be approved for employment by the federal government.
