Days/Hours of Work: 8a to 5p M-F (responsiveness to safety related needs after hours is important)
The Plant Safety Specialist is responsible for leading and managing employee health and safety and environmental processes within the production facility. This includes wastewater and stormwater operations, hazardous waste, powered industrial trucks, lockout/tagout and machine guarding.
- Implement and manage safety programs, regulatory training, environmental waste reduction, and EHS Program Management to maintain ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
- Coordinate with the team and HR to manage injured workers, including return-to-work programs.
- Ensure effective implementation of site Utilities Management Programs and accurate EHS metrics reporting.
- Conduct safety and health assessments/analyses in facilities to minimuze health and safety risks.
- Lead the implementation of Heartland's wastewater management system, compliance tracking, and design review/approval.
- Conduct risk assessments and create contingency plans for potential environmental, safety, and regulatory risks.
- Provide timely EHS awareness and compliance training programs to all levels of operations and managment.
- Ensure programs meet all Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements and Heartland's policy requirements, including managing compliance calendars and actions.
- Monitor accident/incident reporting accuracy and timeliness to ensure up-to-date safety data for Heartland's leadership.
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of one year of work experience required, or a minimum of five years of progressive job experience including people or project management with leadership and influencing skills required.
- Minimum 2-5 years of relevant working experience.
- Safety: Knowledge of technical practices and programs used in the reduction or elimination of workplace hazards. Includes knowledge of worker safety regulations as they relate to the manufacturing, distribution, and sales.
- Environmental Management System Design: Ability to design, develop and implement effective environmental management systems. T
- Environmental and Health & Safety Regulations: Knowledge of local, state or federal environmental, health and safety regulations; how to access and evaluate resources as applicable to facilities within Heartland Coca-Cola.
- Industrial Hygiene: Knowledge of procedures used to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control physical, chemical, biological and ergonomic hazards.
- Technical Communication to Non-Technical Audience: Ability to break down or modify complex technical information as needed to communicate it orally or in writing to non-technical staff (e.g., senior managers, customers or consumers).
- Travel to other Heartland distribution centers as required.
