A Concrete Flatwork Superintendent

oversees all aspects of a concrete flatwork project, including planning, scheduling, quality control, safety, and crew management, ensuring the concrete flatwork is installed to specifications, on time, and within budget, while maintaining high standards of workmanship on site, primarily focusing on flat surfaces like sidewalks, street paving, parking lots, interior finish floors, slab on metal deck, ETC.

Key Responsibilities:

· Project Planning and Execution:

· Review project plans and specifications to understand the scope of work, material requirements, and deadlines.

· Develop detailed work plans and schedules for concrete placement, finishing, curing, and jointing.

· Coordinate with subcontractors, material suppliers, and other trades to ensure timely delivery and proper sequencing.

· Crew Supervision:

· Lead and manage a team of concrete laborers, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing on-the-job training.

· Ensure all crew members follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

· Conduct daily safety meetings to address potential hazards and review safety procedures.

· Quality Control:

· Perform regular inspections throughout the concrete placement and finishing process to verify compliance with project specifications.

· Monitor concrete mix design, slump tests, and curing procedures to ensure quality standards are met.

· Identify and address any quality issues promptly, including re-work if necessary.

· Site Management:

· Manage the use of concrete placing equipment, finishing tools, and other necessary machinery.

· Coordinate site layout and ensure proper formwork installation and removal.

· Maintain a clean and organized worksite, adhering to all environmental regulations.

· Budget and Schedule Management:

· Track project progress and identify potential delays to proactively address issues.

· Monitor project costs, including labor, materials, and equipment, to stay within budget constraints.

· Communicate any budget or schedule concerns to the project manager.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

· Experience:

Several years of experience in concrete flatwork construction, including supervisory roles.

· Technical Knowledge:

Thorough understanding of concrete mix design, placement techniques, finishing methods, jointing practices, and curing procedures.

· Leadership Skills:

Ability to motivate and manage of multiple crews effectively, providing clear instructions and resolving conflicts.

· Communication Skills:

Excellent verbal and written communication to interact with clients, project managers, subcontractors, and crew members.

· Safety Focus:

Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and enforcing safety regulations.
