What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Technician position at HEARTLAND SOIL SERVICES, LLC?
General Purpose
The HSS field technician is responsible for the collection of agronomic field data such as: soil samples, EM/GPR mapping, and soil compaction mapping.
Essential Functions
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Our entire agronomic decision making tree is based on an accurate foundation of information that begins at the field collection stage with you.
-Performs field collection tasks using the proper tools, techniques and equipment for the specified task.
-Follows protocols to ensure the collected soil and data is accurate.
-Seeks direction and guidance from senior-level field technicians and managers.
-Operates field equipment in a safe and responsible manner.
-Maintains field equipment such as ATVs, side-by-sides, and sampling equipment.
-Boxes and labels soil samples according to operating procedure and ships them to soil laboratory in a timely manner.
Supervisory Duties
-Self-supervision and motivation. The field technician position allows you the opportunity to work outside in an environment in which you are not under direct supervision and the opportunity to define your own work schedule, to some degree.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-Ability to consistently promote, support, work and act in a manner in support of the Heartland Soil Services Team vision.
-Knowledge of basic operations and maintenance of ATVs, side-by-sides and iPads preferred but not required, we will train you on these.
-Ability to communicate effectively with your manager and other team members.
-Must be able to lift approximately 35 lbs.
Education
-High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) is required.
Experience
-None required - experience in agriculture or data collection is preferred.
Additional Requirements
-Must have reliable transportation - after an initial trial period, a company vehicle will be provided.
-Must have a valid Driver's License.
Compensation and Benefits
-Base pay is provided with the addition of performance incentives on a per acre basis, paid bi-weekly with hourly wages.
