Position Overview
The Lab Operations Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and optimization of the HelioStorm system. This role requires both hands-on operational expertise and strategic thinking to troubleshoot, improve processes, and contribute to system enhancements. The position is structured to accommodate varying levels of experience:
- Level 2: Focuses on core operational responsibilities with growing autonomy in troubleshooting and process optimization.
- Level 3: Includes advanced troubleshooting, process improvements, training junior staff, and contributing to engineering initiatives.
Core Responsibilities (All Levels)
- Operate and maintain the gasifier system in accordance with approved test plans, protocols, and safety guidelines.
- Monitor system performance, collect and analyze data, and make real-time adjustments to optimize operations.
- Maintain operator logbooks with detailed documentation of system parameters, performance issues, and corrective actions.
- Load feedstock into the system for testing and ensure proper handling of materials.
- Collect, document, and analyze test samples to support ongoing research and development efforts.
- Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Quality (EHSQ) regulations and company policies.
- Uphold the Company’s established Standards of Conduct and Business Ethics.
Additional Responsibilities Based on Level
Level 2:
- Assist with troubleshooting operational challenges and support system modifications under supervision.
- Contribute to test plan execution with input from senior team members.
- Participate in root cause analysis and basic process improvement initiatives.
Level 3:
- Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex operational and mechanical issues.
- Provide strategic input and recommendations for system improvements.
- Assist in the development, execution, and refinement of test plans.
- Mentor and train junior operators on gasifier operation and safety protocols.
- Work closely with the engineering team to implement and evaluate system optimizations.
Skillset Requirements:
Education and Experience Requirements by Level
Level 2:
- Associate’s degree in environmental science, engineering technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical, operations, or laboratory environment.
- Exposure to gasification systems, thermal processing, or chemical operations preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform light milling and troubleshooting.
Level 3:
- Associate’s degree in environmental science, engineering technology, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in gasification operations, chemical processing, or industrial operations.
- Proven ability to lead troubleshooting and optimization efforts.
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering teams to enhance system performance.
- Prior experience mentoring or training junior operators.
General Skills for All Levels
- Demonstrated ability to think ahead, anticipate operational needs, and proactively address challenges.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and reporting to support process optimization.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working with technology-driven systems.
- OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification preferred.
- Boiler, power plant operations or other relevant experience desired
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends, as operational needs dictate.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to lift equipment per company safety standards.
- Work will be conducted in both indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year.
