Description The Speech Therapist at Heartwood Charter School works to provide speech support as well as participating in the IEP/504 process. The Speech Therapist will be involved in assessments and direct services to students who need speech support. We are seeking candidates who are innovative, creative and flexible and ready to join us wholeheartedly in continuing to develop a unique independent study educational environment. Our ideal candidate will be striving for excellence in teaching and committed to dialogue with parents and colleagues. Therapist Responsibilities Provide direct speech services to students according to instructional plans Conduct informal observations and assessments Participate in IEP/504 meetings and assessments Report student progress as a member of the IEP/504 team Qualifications Appropriate licensing and certification Ability to connect and build relationships with students and parents Ability to maintain a professional relationship and observe strict confidentiality regarding all school, child and family matters Ability to self-start and exhibit a motivating approach Additional Responsibilities Work collaboratively with staff to carry out parent education and communication Support vision of the school State Licensing Requirements Mandatory state reporter of child abuse Education and Skills Good communication Calm, gentle manner Works cooperatively with groups (and individuals) Training and knowledge of developmental stages Manage small groups of children independently Knowledge of basic skills using the SEIS program Schedule The Speech Therapist position begins mid- August and is completed at the beginning of June.
