Overview
The Behavior Intervention Specialist (BIS) is responsible for providing behavior support planning and interventions to individuals across programs, working closely with staff to ensure the implementation of individualized behavioral treatment plans. The BIS will develop, evaluate, and revise treatment plans while ensuring that all prescribed behavior supports are executed effectively. This role involves training staff, consulting with interdisciplinary teams, and maintaining comprehensive documentation in compliance with agency policies and regulatory standards. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will assist in developing agency policies, while also actively participating in meetings and contributing to the overall success of the agency's behavioral support programs.
Duties
- Develop, evaluate, and revise behavioral treatment plans for people supported across programs. a. If developing restrictive plans, obtain consent and/or Human Rights Committee approval while preparing and maintaining all applicable records and ongoing approvals. b. Collaborate with program management to ensure staff action plans and progress notes are inclusive of and reflect any and all individualized support plans. c. Consult with family members, program staff and managers to review status and recommendations d. Visit people we support at each assigned program/home, as necessary. Develop, evaluate and revise clinical policies and procedures for the agency in regards to support plans. Develop and train staff on implementation of all prescribed behavior supports and individualized protocols reviewed and approved for use. a. Trainings include, but are not limited to; Positive Behavior Support, Functional Communication and Assessments, Data Collections, etc. Maintain all required documentation in accordance with all governing regulatory standards and agency policies. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings as needed, including intake screenings, community connections and worksite development. Participate in all agency-wide committees as assigned, as well as committees in the field. Report all incidents to their immediate supervisor. Ability to travel to and from fairs, events, programs, departments as necessary. Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited program in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied psychology as it related to human development and clinical interventions, and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development required, or; o a national board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) and a Master’s Degree in behavior analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by OPWDD, or; o a Master's degree in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, applied psychology as it related to human development and clinical intervention, or a related human services field; or o a New York State license in mental health counseling; and have or obtain OPWDD-approved specialized training or experience in functional assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; Minimum 5 years’ experience working directly with people with ID/DD in support plan development Excellent written and oral communications skills Flexibility in scheduled work hours as needed Eager to learn, hone, and adapt skills required to succeed in this role Able to work with a diverse group of people, be an effective communicator, and be a team player Strong leadership, judgement, decision-making, and organization skills. Training experience is a plus.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
